Dsign & Oprating Nots: 1. Th D171/D171B/ CMOS oprational amplifir uss a 3 gain stag architctur and an improvd frquncy compnsation schm to achiv larg voltag gain, high output driving capaility, and ttr frquncy staility. In a convntional CMOS oprational amplifir dsign, compnsation is achivd with a pol splitting capacitor togthr with a nulling rsistor. This mthod is, howvr, vry ias dpndnt and thus cannot accommodat th larg rang of supply voltag opration as is rquird from a stand alon CMOS oprational amplifir. Th D171/D171B/ is intrnally compnsatd for unity gain staility using a novl schm that dos not us a nulling rsistor. This schm producs a clan singl pol roll off in th gain charactristics whil providing for mor than 7 dgrs of phas margin at th unity gain frquncy. 2. Th D171/D171B/ has complmntary pchannl and nchannl input diffrntial stags connctd in paralll to accomplish rail to rail input common mod voltag rang. This mans that with th rangs of common mod input voltag clos to th powr supplis, on of th two diffrntial stags is switchd off intrnally. To maintain compatiility with othr oprational amplifirs, this switching point has n slctd to aout 1.5V low th positiv supply voltag. Sinc offst voltag trimming on th D171/D171B/ is mad whn th input voltag is symmtrical to th supply voltags, this intrnal switching dos not affct a larg varity of applications such as an invrting amplifir or noninvrting amplifir with a gain largr than 2.5 (5V opration), whr th common mod voltag dos not mak xcursions aov this switching point. Th usr should howvr, awar that this switching dos tak plac if th oprational amplifir is connctd as a unity gain uffr, and should mak provision in his dsign to allow for input offst voltag variations. 3. Th input ias and offst currnts ar ssntially input protction diod rvrs ias lakag currnts, and ar typically lss than 1p at room tmpratur. This low input ias currnt assurs that th analog signal from th sourc will not distortd y input ias currnts. Normally, this xtrmly high input impdanc of gratr than 1 12 Ω would not a prolm as th sourc impdanc would limit th nod impdanc. Howvr, for applications whr sourc impdanc is vry high, it may ncssary to limit nois and hum pickup through propr shilding. 4. Th output stag consists of class B complmntary output drivrs, capal of driving a low rsistanc load. Th output voltag swing is limitd y th drain to sourc onrsistanc of th output transistors as dtrmind y th ias circuitry, and th valu of th load rsistor. Whn connctd in th voltag followr configuration, th oscillation rsistant fatur, comind with th rail to rail input and output fatur, maks an ffctiv analog signal uffr for mdium to high sourc impdanc snsors, transducrs, and othr circuit ntworks. 5. Th D171/D171B/ oprational amplifir has n dsignd to provid full static discharg protction. Intrnally, th dsign has n carfully implmntd to minimiz latch up. Howvr, car must xrcisd whn handling th dvic to avoid strong static filds that may dgrad a diod junction, causing incrasd input lakag currnts. In using th oprational amplifir, th usr is advisd to powr up th circuit for, or simultanously with any input voltags applid, and to limit input voltags not to xcd.3v of th powr supply voltag lvls. 6. Th D171/D171B/, with its micropowr opration, offrs numrous nfits in rducd powr supply rquirmnts, lss nois coupling and currnt spiks, lss thrmally inducd drift, ttr ovrall rliaility du to lowr slf hating, and lowr input ias currnt. It rquirs practically no warm up tim as th chip junction hats up to only.1 C aov amint tmpratur undr most oprating conditions.
