Introduction Hardinge has provided workholding solutions for machine tool users for over a century. They are the only machine tool builder that also designs and manufactures a comprehensive range of workholding systems. This strategy has produced the most adaptable, flexible, complementary workholding and CNC turning machine packages available anywhere. The Hardinge spindle tooling systems for the CONQUEST and COBRA line of CNC lathes are specifically designed to match the spindles of these machines to meet all of your machining requirements. The complementary design of the collet seat/a2 spindle mount results in inherently quick changeover capabilities with the flexibility to change from through-spindle bar work to second operation and chucking work without the time penalties and alignment problems associated with other machine tool builders systems. The range and adaptability of Hardinge workholding systems for second operations, blanks and castings are second to none. These are adapted from standard off-the-shelf blank emergency - style step chucks for holding round and non-round shapes. Short grip length and minimum distortion are just two of the many benefits realized. A comprehensive range of peripheral accessories ensures that there is a Hardinge solution to most workholding problems within the capacity of the machines. For maximum reduction of setup time, the HQC Quick-Change collet system has a distinct advantage over other collet systems. Collet changeover takes less than two minutes and provides the benefit of true parallel gripping. For internal part location, Hardinge Sure-Grip expanding collets with machineable Dead-Length work stops enable equally effective solutions for machining parts with relationship to a pre-machined bore. Sure-Grip lever-operated counterbalanced 3-jaw chucks, introduced in 1996, benefit from the same combination of Hardinge workholding experience and technology for power chucks giving you maximum performance at minimum price. Large stocks of CNC lathe spindle tooling systems ensure that when a Hardinge customer has a workholding problem, Hardinge has the solution ready to ship. 2

For volume production or larger batch work, hardened and ground versions or other special features can be supplied, usually in a lead time of 4 to 5 weeks. 16

SPECIALS Special Shapes Hardinge has a special collet department dedicated to the manufacture of special-shaped collets and step chucks. Hardinge is world renowned for having the ability to produce very precise hardened collets for gripping extruded stock for bar work, as well as step chucks for gripping large round and irregular-shaped parts for first operation and secondary work. This department has complete facilities to either ram or wire EDM complex contours needed for gripping your workpiece. Lead time is usually between 3 to 4 weeks. Other Hardinge Workholding Systems There are many additional Hardinge workholding systems available as standard off-the-shelf products designed to increase the scope of workpieces which can be held using Hardinge lathes, or Hardinge lathe spindle products. These workholding products can also be used on non-hardinge machine tools. Fixture Plates/Face Plates These plates are used to make special application workholding arrangements for parts that cannot be held using conventional Hardinge systems. Spindle Reducer Collet Adapters 16C-to-5C & 20C-to-16C Adapters enable the use of small-size collets in larger spindle capacity machines. There is also a 20C-to-16C step chuck adapter available for 20C machines. OTHER SYSTEMS Hardinge 16C Collet Block An A2-5 16C spindle nose block enables all of the 16C Hardinge lathe spindle tooling systems to be used for other machining processes. The same versatile and accurate Hardinge lathe workholding system can be used for subsequent operations, thus eliminating additional workholding and fixturing cost. The block has a pneumatically actuated collet open and close mechanism. 20
