DEEPWATER TECHNOLOGY DELEGATION TO MALAYSIA and CHINA Application Closing Date: 1st May 2008 This is an exciting opportunity to combine two events involving two vibrant Far Eastern oil and gas centres. Malaysia is set to become the regional hub for subsea knowledge and excellence serving the entire Asia Pacific region and Chinese oil companies are about to embark on deepwater drilling and development programmes in China and around the world. This delegation is designed to maximise the effectiveness of a visit to the Far East by combining the Subsea Asia 2008 conference and exhibition in Kuala Lumpur and a specific and targeted visit to Sinopec in Beijing to meet with its senior deepwater drilling and development engineers. UKTI-sponsored receptions and networking events will provide the ideal opportunity to meet with industry experts and buyers. 1
Malaysia Malaysia is at the heart of Asia s drive towards increased production of hydrocarbons. Strategically situated between the world s fastest growing energy markets, China and India; Malaysia is at the centre of the region s oil and gas production. Along with most other Asia Pacific countries, Malaysia is set to experience tremendous growth in subsea developments over the next decade. PETRONAS, the region s leading National Oil Company, is at the forefront of this new era and is committed to accumulate relevant deepwater expertise and technology. As such, Malaysia is set to become the regional hub for subsea knowledge and excellence, providing a resource base that will be of benefit to the Asia Pacific region. The SUBSEA Asia 2008 Conference The SUBSEA Asia conference, taking place on Wednesday 11th June, will be the third technical programme run in Malaysia by the industry s pre-eminent association, Subsea UK. Previous events have been held in 2006 and 2007 drawing presenters and delegates from around the region. By collaborating with industry leading organisations, the SUBSEA Asia conference will be able to focus on issues that challenge the region s subsea and deepwater professionals. It will bring together the major industry players from around Asia and beyond. Speakers and delegates will be drawn from the region s National and International Oil Companies, subsea service companies, subsea manufacturing companies, professional societies, universities and other institutions. The conference will look at the industry trends in Asia, dissemination of new and existing subsea technology and most importantly the exchange of valuable ideas and practical knowledge. The conference aims to educate and inform all those present, encouraging the transfer of knowledge and the application of new techniques and technology. By so doing, the conference looks to assist those trying to secure the future of Asia s subsea and deepwater industry, for generations to come. The SUBSEA Asia 2008 Exhibition The SUBSEA Asia 2008 exhibition will take place alongside the conference, opening for a reception on the evening of Wednesday 11th June. It will then be open for two full days on the 12th and 13th June. It will provide an opportunity for companies to present their products and services direct to the conference delegates and other industry professionals visiting the exhibition. Mission activities Dinner reception, hosted by H E Boyd McCleary, High Commissioner to Malaysia at his residence for all the speakers and UK companies exhibiting/visiting the event Attend Subsea Asia 2008 Conference (with speakers from PETRONAS, Shell, Murphy Oil, Schlumberger, Aker Kvaerner and many other) Meet with Malaysian and other oil & gas companies at the exhibition Meet with Commercial Officers from China, India, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Brunei, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam Networking reception hosted by Scottish Development International Ice-breaker session organised by Subsea UK. China Chinese oil companies are about to embark on deep water drilling and development programmes in China and around the world. Whilst very capable onshore and in shallow waters, the Chinese companies have no experience in deeper waters and are now confronted with projects in water depths of up to 3000m and harsh marine conditions. The Chinese companies are at the point where they really have to get going on deepwater projects and they can t afford to wait. They are looking for extensive foreign cooperation and are willing to import what they need. UK Trade & Investment has worked together for some time to introduce Chinese operators to the UK s technical excellence and experience in deepwater subsea technology and to build the relationships necessary for successful trade with Chinese companies. Following the very successful UKTI visit to Aberdeen of 8 senior PetroChina deepwater engineers and planners in April 2007 and a visit to state oil company CNOOC in Beijing and Shenzhen in November 2007, UKTI proposes to take a group of UK companies to China in June 2008 to introduce them to Sinopec (China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation) in Beijing. architecture. Simulation, coupled motions Subsea production and processing including those for gas fields. Flow assurance. Production from low pressure reservoirs. Artificial lift methods, ESPs and power supply, subsea remote control. Installation, maintenance, repair and intervention. As well as UKTI in the UK, this delegation will also have the full support of UKTI at the British Embassy in Beijing and its oil and gas specialist. This visit presents an outstanding opportunity for UK companies in the deepwater subsea sector to meet with Sinopec s senior players at an early stage of its deepwater development planning cycle. Mission activities The format will be for each of the companies to make a brief presentation to Sinopec personnel followed by one-on-one detailed presentations and meetings with appropriate Sinopec technical experts and buyers. Delegate companies that met with PetroChina in Aberdeen and CNOOC in Beijing and Shenzhen will also have the opportunity for follow up meetings with those two companies whilst in Beijing. Sinopec s interest extends from design, manufacture, installation, operation and maintenance across all drilling, development and production phases. How to organise for deepwater projects and make a plan. Key processes and timelines for these activities. Project management and specialist personnel. Marine and offshore engineering, production engineering General requirements and considerations for deepwater field developments Education and training for deepwater projects Feasibility studies and field optimisation, risk analysis and risk management for deepwater ventures Designing for a harsh marine environment (typhoons, complex currents, sediment slumping, scouring and shear currents caused by earthquakes) Design and equipment issues for drilling and completion in deep water. Blow out prevention and management of fracture pressure in deep water. Shallow gas, hydrate control and dealing with cold bottom water temperatures Selection, design, analysis, fabrication and installation of FPSO,TLP, SPAR & Semi-Submersible Riser design, mooring, fatigue, strength, stability.
