Doll Tag Clothing Simply a Skirt Pattern 1

GETTING STARTED Doll Tag Clothing Simply a Skirt Pattern 2 Doll Model Size The model I use to fit my patterns is an American Girl Doll, Julie, and she has a fuller body. Here are her measurements if you want to compare: Chest 11 ¼ ; Waist 11 ; Hip 12 ½ South African Girl Doll is my other doll model used on the pattern covers. Fabric Guide Light weight and medium weight woven fabric Quilt cottons work well You will need Fabric 1/4 yard fabric (25cm) Thread Narrow elastic 10.5 long Print the pattern Pattern pieces are found at the end of the instructions. Check the scale of your pattern. Make sure your printer scale is set to none. If you are using A4 Paper set and your scale is not correct set your printer to print Letter size. Simply cut out the pattern pieces or trace them onto pattern paper. NOTE Some pieces need to be stuck together using sticky tape. CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS Skirt Waist Band Cut 1 on fold (14 x 2.5 ) Skirt Flair Cut 1 on fold (22 x 4 )

SEWING INSTRUCTIONS Doll Tag Clothing Simply a Skirt Pattern 3 Sew a ¼ seam unless otherwise stated. Note: Finish off the seam This is to prevent fraying. If you do not have a serger then use a zigzag stitch on your machine. Fray check can also be used. A nice zigzag to use on your machine: Set stitch length 2 and stitch width 2. Finish off the seam for 2 layers: Trim the seam slightly and zigzag (or serge on a serger) SKIRT Instructions 1. Elastic casing - Fold over the top long edge of the Waist band 1/4 and press. 2. Fold over again 3/8 and stitch on the folded edge. This is now your elastic casing. 3. Hem the bottom of the skirt Fold over the bottom long edge of the Skirt Flair 1/4. Fold over again 1/4. Press. 4. Sew on the folded edge, hemming the skirt. 5. Sew Gathers With ride side up, sew 2 rows of gather stitched on the top edge of the skirt flair. Row 1 - must be 1/8 from the edge Row 2 must be 1/4 from the first row TIP: Gather stitch is a straight stitch with the longest stitch length on your machine. 6. Pull the bottom thread of the gather stitches to gather the skirt flair. Gather the flair to be the same length as the bottom of the Waist band. Tie the end threads with knots when you have the right length. This will prevent the gathers from pulling out. Even out the gathers.

7. With right sides together place the skirt flair and the waist band together. Align the seam and pin. Doll Tag Clothing Simply a Skirt Pattern 4 8. Sew and finish the seam joining the two pieces. 9. Fold the seam up towards the waistband. Now top stitch it down by sewing 1/8 from the edge on the waistband side. Use a longer stitch length for this. 10. Insert the elastic Cut a piece of elastic 10,5. Use a safety pin or bodkin to thread the elastic through the elastic casing. 11. Let the elastic stick out slightly at the openings. Stitch the elastic down with a small zigzag stitch. Do this for both ends. 12. With right sides together align the two short sides of the skirt. Sew and finish the seam. Tip: If you are adding a Label to the skirt you will do it when stitching this last seam. Turn the skirt inside out. Well Done! Your skirt is now complete!
