Building (Process) Room Report Jan Karlshøj, IDM Coordinator/Process Room Leader buildingsmart Building (Process) Room Toronto, October 30, 2014

Building (Process) Room The Process Room were established in 2012. The Product Room and Process Room were formed in order to support professionals within architecture, engineering, construction, product manufactures, owners and operators to benefit from the use of Open BIM, where is here is seen as a combination of using building information modeling tools and transferring data by open standards. The use of building information modeling can result in significant savings but relies on focus from the management, reengineering of work processes, detailed data specifications and availability of compatible software tools. The Process Room is looking at the design, construction and operation processes by the use of virtual building products and building information modeling tools.

Building (Process) Room The Process Room has Overviewed and proposed changes to the concept of Information delivery manual. Monitored, stimulated, suggested and participated in development of Information delivery manuals Suggested development of data validation services based on Information delivery manuals, and IFC based model view definitions. Identified and discussed need for certification of people in relation to open BIM Identified a need for contracts to be modified in order to maximize the benefits from using open BIM Seen a need for harmonisation of BIM guidelines and agreements in order to be more efficient, avoid duplicating work and to be supported by software applications. Initiated an award program to learn about projects that use buildingsmart solutions and to publish them on the buildingsmart website as an inspiration to others. Provided end-user oriented input to deliverables developed by buildingsmart Followed and participated in relevant ISO and CEN working group

Recent activities in the Building (Process) Room The Process Room is in transition to become the Building Room in buildingsmart, focussing on process and exchange requirements in relation to the lifecycle of buildings The Process Room has Made improvements to the IDM methodology Lead revision of ISO 29481-1 Information delivery manual Methodology (and format) Promoted ISO 29481-2 Information delivery manual Interaction framework Been active in CEN/BT/WG 215 regarding adoption of ISO/bS standards Focussed on end-user oriented documentation of IFC, Model View Definitions and certified software products Been responsible for developing an Award program Reporting issues regarding certified software products

Recent activities in the Building (Process) Room Project in the Process Room P07 BIM Guidelines (Lead by Sylvain Marie and Susan Keenliside) Supported and reviewed material from projects in other Rooms in buildingsmart P2 Coordination view IFC4 Reference View IFC4 Design Transfer View P4 (P3Real Life Object Mapping (RLOM)) P10 BIM Collaboration format (BCF) 2.0

What does it really mean Agree about processes means to agree about the information need Agreeing about information need means to agree about the content in the building information model and how to represent it Examples: Information about functional requirements Requirements to achieve accessibility for everyone Information about environmental impact Etc.
