Note from the President As we begin our new year as Lake Norman Quilters I ve been thinking about the topic of goals and the purpose of a quilt guild. According to the dictionary a guild is an association of people with common aims and interests. I think this definition is insufficient to describe our guild and the many others I ve visited over the years. Quilters come together in their guilds to learn from each other; to share their talents and their quilting adventures and misadventures. They are creative people who derive satisfaction from putting needle to fabric and who are eager for the opportunity to master new skills. I have found them to be not only generous in the sharing of their skills but also quick to credit the talents of those who teach them. In short, the members of my quilt guild are valued friends. continued on page 2
January 201 Sew It Goes 2 Note from the President, continued... I hope that over the course of our next year we can spread the word about our guild, finding others who would like to share the guild experience with us. I m setting a few serious goals for myself this year. They include the following: 1. Clean and organize my quilting closet (again). 2. Finish a large, pesky UFO that I started around 2009. 3. Make three charity quilts. 4. Relearn that slick little technique for burying a quilting thread that ran out and starting the new one. Which one of you first taught me that??? 5. Learn to do some more advanced quilting stitches. I m afraid I ve become the stippling queen totally due to my timidity in tackling anything else. 6. Promote Lake Norman Quilters in my community. Colleen Thrailkill REMEMBER: Membership dues of $20 are due at the January meeting!
