EUTELSAT@SEA MARITIME SERVICE >> GOING GLOBAL

KU-BAND COVERAGE current coverage future coverage

Eutelsat@Sea - Going Global Our maritime services first commercialised in 1990 with EutelTracs, providing messaging and positioning services for fleet management for the fishing industry. Six years later we launched Emsat, delivering voice, data traffic and positioning services, notably to the Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) in Europe. In 2000, our D-SAT service, already used to interconnect company headquarters with remote sites such as offshore oil and gas platforms, was extended to offer broadband access to ferries, merchant ships and government vessels. Now, with the new generation of small DVB-RCS terminals, our broadband services, collectively known as Eutelsat@Sea, have been expanded to embrace the extensive markets of cruise ships and pleasure boats. The geographic coverage of our maritime services has also evolved from an original offer over Europe, via the satellites W2, W3 and ATLANTIC BIRD 1, to reach the African and American coasts with C- band capacity on ATLANTIC BIRD 3. Since 2004, Eutelsat has also added Ku-band capacity on W6 and W3A to provide maritime services over the Middle East, the Gulf and Africa. However, the most recent milestone in the geographic expansion of our maritime services was in 2006 when Ku-band coverage using the TELSTAR 12 satellite was added to cover the Caribbean and, under a roaming agreement with SpeedCast, initiated significant expansion into Asian and trans-atlantic waters. ABOUT EUTELSAT Through capacity commercialised on 24 satellites positioned to serve users in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Americas, Eutelsat is one of the world s leading satellite operators. Our extensive satellite system is used for video broadcasting to cable and satellite homes, satellite newsgathering, broadband access, IP content distribution, corporate networks, fixed and mobile telecommunications services. In today s digital environment, satellites are a privileged source of bandwidth, able to offer universal coverage of territories for content delivery direct to users or to terrestrial networks and for enabling complete communications networks to be set up even in the most restricted areas.

Deep sea routes Eutelsat, in partnership with SpeedCast, recently launched a new maritime broadband communications service targeted at the commercial shipping sector. Providing maritime professionals with a range of services, from broadband Internet access to secure corporate Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), this always-on, fixed fee solution, with unlimited global usage, is particularly attractive to companies operating vessels on the world s busiest shipping routes. Enabling secure offshore VPNs to be established with land-based offices, a ship in effect becomes a mobile office fully integrated into an overall network. The service uses Ku-band capacity, provided mostly by Eutelsat and AsiaSat satellites. The Europe-Asia shipping route is already covered, and the North Atlantic route will be served by the end of 2008. THE EUTELSAT/SPEEDCAST SOLUTION OFFERS A WIDE RANGE OF BENEFITS, IN TERMS OF: Crew retention: - Internet access and voice services - Enhanced entertainment - Telemedicine applications Operating and administrative costs: - Increased productivity: 2 Mbps broadband channel supporting all IP-based corporate applications - Migration of certain Human Resources functions from ship to shore - Real-time ship management/routing Security: - Video-monitoring - Training MAIN SERVICE FEATURES: Broadband, always-on, real-time, seamless connection Fixed monthly fee, irrespective of time online, amount of data transmitted or satellite beam coverage Guaranteed bandwidth Small VSAT antenna Proven technlogy: Eutelsat type-approved, stabilized VSAT Global Ku-band coverage, with automatic beam switching Multi-applications: Internet, voice, data and video Additional options: - Encrypted company VPN for ERP ship-integrated applications - Ship monitoring, tracking and telemetry applications

Governmental applications Over the past few years, governments have seen their communications requirements dramatically increase. In addition to the need for permanent national and international networks, now more than ever before, governments have to manage a broad range of situations in real time, including national disasters, relief operations, crisis management, political upheaval, field operations or nation-building. All require easily-deployable, scalable, dependable and affordable links. As Eutelsat s maritime services become increasingly global, they are poised to meet a growing number of requirements from the governmental vessel segment, whether in coastal waters (e.g. surveillance, monitoring fishing, relief operations) or on the high seas (shipping routes, peace-keeping operations, ) In addition to the features offered to commercial vessels, the Eutelsat/SpeedCast solution can provide governmental shipping with: - Dedicated, secure networks - Encryption - Flexible bandwidth allocation - Proven technology in the military sector THE COVERAGE ZONES AVAILABLE ARE AS FOLLOWS: Europe: North Sea, English Channel, Baltic Sea, Mediterranean, Black Sea, Atlantic Middle East: Suez Canal, Red Sea, Persian Gulf, Caspian Sea Africa: East and West coasts Asia: East and South Asia and Australian coast North and South America: Atlantic coast, Caribbean Trans-oceanic routes: Europe to Far East (available), Europe to North America (end 2008)

Solutions for the oil and gas industry Drilling offshore, remotely monitoring production and infrastructure, accessing the Internet, it s business as usual for the oil and gas industry. However, communications can be a major problem. Whether you re in the Caspian Sea, or off the coast of Angola, you re right in the middle of the digital divide. Eutelsat s new generation of services brings together all the elements required to play a vital role providing universal coverage in the broadband access sector, whilst remaining reliable and affordable. WHATEVER YOUR NEEDS: Basic telephony, fax or data communications Connection to corporate networks or to the Internet Broadband applications (videoconferencing, image transfer, telemedicine ) Eutelsat offers state-of-the-art satellite solutions for fixed and mobile services, extended reach, multi-choice solutions and multimedia innovations, with guaranteed immediate availability of bandwidth and quality of service, fixed communication costs and simultaneous distribution of content, not forgetting a large network of partners. And provides coverage to critical areas for the oil and gas sector: the North Sea, the Persian Gulf, the Caspian, Central Asia, Siberia, North and West Africa, the Gulf of Mexico

Al Mirquab

On-board broadband internet solutions The mega yacht sector is witnessing unprecedented growth, fuelled by global economic expansion, increasing affluence and the advent of modern telecommunications systems. Mega yachts are increasingly used as a permanent or semi-permanent place of residence, and this requires the availability of communications systems able to sustain the pace of a normal working day, including after-work entertainment. Customers in this segment are very demanding and require top-end solutions, which means the best equipment packaged with a fast and reliable connection. Such customers also need a provider who can serve them globally. Increasingly, satellite-based solutions are being integrated directly by shipyards during mega-yacht construction. THE EUTELSAT@SEA OFFER IS PARTICULARLY WELL SUITED TO THIS MARKET: Full coverage of the main cruising areas (Mediterranean, Caribbean, Maldives, Oceania) Always-on, flat fee solutions Voice (including GSM and WiFi on-board access), e-mail, Internet access, fax and data applications Entertainment applications: TV, radio, online games, webcam on-board On-board delivery of daily newspapers Ship management (real on-time ship positionning) Of particular interest is the compact size of the on-board satellite antenna, as well as the dynamic allocation of satellite bandwidth, enabling the customer to only pay for the airtime actually used.
