Hi Members April 2019 Dates to Remember Club Meeting 9 th April Set Subject: Movement Judge: Brian Eastwood We have received such a positive feedback to our March Club Chat, one email in particular we would like to share with you Thank you VERY much for a wonderful Newsletter. I know that these do not appear magically on your screen as you sit down at your computer (wish they did!!) - they take a lot of dedicated time that many can ill-afford from their busy schedules, so believe me, it is REALLY appreciated. Any articles you wish to have published in this please send to either: president.manukauphoto@gmail.com secretary.manukauphoto@gmail.com Next Workshop David has kindly offered to run a second workshop for us. Topic: Developing a Photographic Style Date: Tuesday 21 st May Time: 7.30pm Location: Sheree s Place MPS New Zealand Natural History competition 28 th May 2019 Workshop Thank you David for a very informative first workshop. I love how you involved us all into judging the photos everyone brought along and guiding us along the way. Very much looking forward to the next workshop. David has offered to run another evening workshop in which he will talk about his approach to developing a photographic style and guide a group discussion on what it means and why it is important. He has asked that each participant bring along a digital image or a print that embodies at least some element of photographic style. This could be the genre, the treatment, the forrmat, etc. Images don t have to be yours he says, any will do! This workshop will be limited to 6 members but David is willing to hold other sessions if invited to do so. Venue: Sheree s Place Date: Tuesday 21 May 2019 Time: 7.30pm Please email through your interest in attending to president.manukauphoto@gmail.com Page 1 of 9

Special Notices to David Smith to Lynn Fothergill Lynn won the Canon Online 2019 Round 1 Competition with her image titled Flamingo Congratulations Lynn. Judge Neil Gordons comments on Lynn s photo: What beautiful textures and soft colours, with the flamingo balanced on its thin and almost impossibly long legs. I like the use of a clean black background to make the bird really stand out. My eye goes back and forth between the body and the head, enjoying the textures. And I can t help but smile at the comical appearance of the upside down beak. Exquisite. David has had one print accepted in the current PSNZ Canon Exhibition. David also picked up the Shirley Peverill Memorial Trophy and gold for a photojournalism print. Congratulations and well done David. If you, or you know of someone else in our club, who did well in a competition please let us know so we can include our members achievements in the Club Chat. We have very talented Club members and it is fantastic to be able to celebrate their accomplishments and congratulate them. So please, please let us know. Fundraising Our first Instant Kiwi raffle was drawn at our March Club Night by visiting judge Geoff Beals. The Winning Ticket was Richard B. Congratulations Richard. Here s hoping you won some cash or prizes. The next two Raffles have been well supported and will both be drawn at our April Club night by our visiting judge. (Toy Hamper valued at $300 & a second $50 worth of Instant Kiwi Scratch tickets). All fundraising proceeds will be put towards purchasing something of benefit to our Club. Thank you all for your support with our fundraising ventures Our 2019 Goal is $,1000 Our total banked to date is $190 Page 2 of 9

Website The Committee has agreed that the photos on our website will be increased in size. Our current photo size: 300W x 200H x 72 Res. Our new photo size: 480W x 364H x 72 Res. This change will be made after our April Club night. If you do not wish your photos to be displayed on our website at the new sizing, can you please ensure you put in the subject line to Bryan Not for Website. A big Thank you to Theresa and Allysa for their time and hard work in refreshing our website. It s coming together nicely Donations Received 1. Ross Muir kindly donated two items for fundraising. Thank you very much Ross. 2. Revised Business Cards (with new email addresses) - These will be available for all Club Members at the April meeting. The cards will provide a quick and easy way to promote our club if the opportunity arises when members are out and about in the community. Field Trips Our trip to the Zoo was a great night out with good opportunity to take photos in nice lighting. Hopefully we will see some of these photos coming through at club night. Linda has suggested our next Field trip be into the city for street photography. Perhaps also sunrise at Takapuna if anyone is interested, and then onto downtown somewhere. Once the date is known we will let all members know. A trip to Thames, maybe including the Gold Mining Tour has been suggested by John P for later in the year. The timing for this trip could be in conjunction with when the annual Steampunk Festival takes place, which would make for an exciting occasion. In 2018 Steampunk was held in November. WELCOME We have a new Club member Darrell If you see a new face at our next club meeting please say Hi Page 3 of 9
