If needed, Blue Ox Dealers can be found at www.blueox.com or by contacting our Customer Care Department at (402) 385-3051. 2. Many Blue Ox baseplates are designed to use existing holes and hardware to mount the baseplate to the towed vehicle. Even though bolts are there, do not assume they are adequate for baseplate mounting. Always use the hardware supplied in the hardware kit and existing hardware as specified in the installation instructions. Attachment Tabs: Motorhome mount tow bars are recommended for use with this baseplate. Due to the design of the removable tabs, the RangeFinderII, Adventurer, and Ambassador tow bars can not be used. The Acclaim tow bar may be used, but will not fold and store on the front of the vehicle. Adapters, except the BX8833 and BX88151, can not be used with this baseplate. Installation Notes: The fascia, horn and windshield fluid reservoir are removed for installation. The air dam and fascia are trimmed. Drilling is required. 1 The dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable. While the baseplate was designed for easy installation, it may be necessary to tailor the baseplate slightly to compensate for auto manufacturer s tolerances. These minor adjustments may include filing a hole slightly, bending electrical rods or bending end plates. 1. Remove twelve (12) push pins from the plastic piece covering the top of the under carriage with a flat screwdriver. There are two (2) push pins on each outer edge of the vehicle (see insert). Also, remove six (6) additional push pins from the bottom segment of the fascia. Remove push pins and set aside for later reinstallation. The BX8869 Bulb and Socket Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle. 2 Possible location for the BX8869 Bulb and Socket Wiring Kit 2. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove a screw connecting the fascia near the headlight. Do this to both sides and set aside bolts for reinstallation later. NOTE: On 2012 models this requires the use of a T20 Torx instead of a Phillips screwdriver. 292-2966 Rev. L Page 3 of 8 6/6/13

3. Remove five (5) Phillips screws just forward of the front tire, on the edge of fascia with a Phillips screwdriver. Do this to both sides of the vehicle. Set pushpins aside to be reinstalled later. 3 4 4. On 2012 models only: Once the previous step has been completed, gently pull the wheel well liner back and unclip the two (2) clips to loosen the outer trim. NOTE: On 2012 models this requires the use of a T20 Torx instead of a Phillips screwdriver. 6. Using a 10MM socket, remove the hex bolt holding the horn to the frame rail. Remove the horn and bolt and set aside for later reinstallation. Do this to both sides. 6 5 5. Remove two (2) Phillips screws from under the fascia with a screwdriver. Using a 10MM socket, also remove the hex bolt from under the fascia (gray arrow). Do this to both sides. 7 Pull fascia corners to the side of vehicle to release, then pull fascia forward and set 7. On 2012 models only: The temperature fascia aside carefully for later reinstallation sensor will need to be temporarily along with bolts. Remove the temperature removed. Squeeze the button in the sensor from the top of the bumper. It will be front to release. Using a flat screwdriver, relocated. remove the push pin on top. The temperature sensor will be relocated after the baseplate has been installed. 292-2966 Rev. L Page 4 of 8 6/6/13

8. Using a 10MM socket, remove three (3) hex bolts holding the windshield fluid reservoir. Disconnect fluid and electrical lines, set aside bolts and reservoir until later reinstallation. 8B 8A 10A 9A 9B 6. Mark 2-1/2 across the top of the frame rail front from middle rib just below bumper and 1-5/8 across bottom; cut and remove with a reciprocating saw (white arrow). When cutting across 1-5/8, make it flush with the middle rib and the bottom of the frame rail (gray arrow). Do this to both sides. 10B 10. On driver s side, remove one (1) push pin from air dam and measure 2-3/4 down and measure across the dam straight. Remove marked portion. On the passenger s side, remove one (1) plastic push pin and measure from the top of the air dam to the coolant line hole that has already been cut. Remove the top half. 292-2966 Rev. L Page 5 of 8 6/6/13

4 11 11. Tip the baseplate and rotate up onto the frame. Slide the baseplate up and as far back as possible (gray arrow) to meet the frame rail through the portions just cut and removed. There should be approximately 2 inches from the outside edge of the baseplate to the frame rail to allow for proper clearance (see insert). The lower hole of baseplate needs to be placed in the middle of the lower frame webbing. Clamp the baseplate to the frame rail with large vise grips. 13. Once the baseplate is secure, measure 4 down from the frame rail as shown in the above picture to confirm baseplate is in its correct position. 13 Always ensure baseplate is level. Using the baseplate as a template, with a 13/32 drill bit, drill all holes. Insert nut plate into opening in the bottom of frame rail to align with the top holes then tighten 3/8-16 x 1-1/2 hex bolt and 3/8 lock washer. Place a 3/8-16 x 1 bolt, lock washer and hex nut on bottom two (2) holes (gray arrow). Do this to both sides. When using power drills be aware of the dangers of torque and drill bit length. 12 12. Reattach the water reservoir to the vehicle. When replacing the top left bolt, place eight (8) washers behind the water reservoir to give it proper leverage. Also reinstall horn with existing bolt (gray arrow). BE SURE TO USE LOCTITE RED ON ALL BOLTS BEFORE TIGHTENING. TIGHTEN ALL BOLTS ACCORDING TO THE TORQUE CHART ON THE FRONT PAGE OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS OR ON PAGE 3 OF THE BASEPLATE TOWING GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS. 292-2966 Rev. L Page 6 of 8 6/6/13

14 14. Reattach the temperature sensor to the top of the baseplate with a cable tie. 16 16. Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate (see gray arrow). The photo above shows the recommended installation of the cables to frame of vehicle (see white arrow). Additional options may interfere with suggested mounting; in this case secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame as described in the instructions included with the permanent baseplate safety cables. Be sure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do this to both sides of the vehicle. Be sure that ALL electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning BEFORE installing the fascia. 15. Hold fascia as close to its original position as possible and trim affected areas so receiver for attachment tab and convenience links for safety cables comes through lower grill. Reinstall fascia, pushpins and bolts. DEALER or INSTALLER: Be certain the user receives the instruction sheets for their products. 15 Install the tow bar and safety cables according to the instructions provided in their packages. When demonstrating this to the customer, be sure to include all the contents and packages. Do NOT substitute other devices if the tow bar pins and clips are misplaced. 292-2966 Rev.
