Sarah Nowack Module 9 reflection My partner was Catera Colvin, and we chose Disney.com circa March of 2006. Most of our changes were primarily cosmetic, and we did a bit of cleaning up and reorganizing, but as far as the sitemap we found on the site itself, there weren t many changes to be made on our end. It was such an expansive map and was laid out in a unique way, that any changes we made to the home page would really have just streamlined the sitemap in a minor way. Some of the big issues we noticed with the site was how empty and simultaneously busy it felt. We are so used to seeing advertisements on the top and sides of the screen, and so seeing the additional resources/ads bar at the bottom felt really strange to us, so we moved it up to the top so that it was harder to miss. We also resized the navigation bar, which is designed to look like a bullet train, so that it was slightly bigger and actually looked like a navigation bar, also making it harder to miss. We felt that it was too small and could easily be glossed over. We avoided adding or subtracting from said navigation bar for the sake of avoiding headaches, but we had considered trimming that down as well, because, like most options on the site, it felt a bit redundant and poorly organized. Next, we moved the search bar up into the header so that it wouldn t be separated into its own section, because we felt that was unnecessary and cluttered the page. We removed the visit the neighborhoods dropdown menu entirely, because it was redundant given the navigation bar as well as all the islands/neighborhoods in the visual map below. Finally, we added an era appropriate logo to the center island, because it felt very empty and made the site read as unfinished, and we added floating labels for the childrens and adults sections of the visual, because, unless hovered over, most of the neighborhoods didn t have labels, and grouping them seemed the smartest way to show people at least where to look. We only used comic sans because it is a siste primarily geared towards kids, and we didn t have the means of downloading a disney-style font.
