C LALLAM COUNTY A M AT E UR R ADIO C LUB QTC DECEMBER 13 As we come to the end of 2013, as a club lets review what we have done this year. We ran two Technician/General class programs and an additional exam, producing 27 new hams. Our usual timeframe for this is April and September each year. In June we had a successful Field Day by Clallam County standards, i.e. we had a good set up and tear down, thanks to George W7TTY, with absolutely great food brought to us by Chef Sheldon. A week later we were selling fireworks to earn income for the club. Then the doldrums of summer were upon us. September was our classes again and now we our into the Holiday Season. So what is next? Election of officers at the December meeting. If it seems like you are seeing the same faces again, that is because volunteers to run for a position are few and far between. Realizing some might think this is a click or something, it is not. This is the new world where everyone feels they are so busy doing things that they cannot see themselves having time for anything else. The few who do volunteer sometimes feel over whelmed. If you can take a moment to reflect and think about volunteering for one of the committees that would be helpful. On a personal note I would like to publicly thank Mike and Chris Rice, Karl Barnum, Roger Huntley, Johnny, who help me this fall with the grunt work of putting up and improving my low band antennas. This was not glory work, but walking through the heavy vegetation in the back part of my property putting out radials. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone. 73, Chuck N7BV Associate Editor

CCARC QTC Newsletter Just a little background on the QTC. We use ccarcqtc@yahoo.com as a repository for information for the newsletter. So if you have something for the QTC, please send it to the yahoo address. Do not sent it to one of the editors as they will just have to turn around and resend it to the yahoo address. Please make sure the article or information is complete. As we rotate editing the newsletter you cannot be sure which editor will be piecing the newsletter together. Please remove as much formatting from within whatever program you are using if you know how, before sending it to ccarcqtc. We do not edit, except to change fonts to a standard non-serf font (Arial which is easer to read than Times Roman). We will run a spell checker. When first conceived the editors were given free license, it still is that way. It was understood they would endeavor to include everything submitted, within reason. For instance, off color jokes etc are not going to be printed. Thanks, Have an idea for a club program? Pass them along to the members of the program committee: Bill Carter, Janet Parris, or Chuck Jones. Thanks. We need articles for the QTC newsletter. This is your newsletter. Tell us how you became interested in Ham Radio. What did you do over the summer (just like school) huh! Did you put up a new antenna, buy a new radio? Tell us about it. Did you try a new mode again tell us about it. The more you submit the less blank space we will have! Thanks, the staff! 2 METER NETS CCARC : Every Thursday 7:00 pm on the W7FEL Repeater. Clallam County Amateur Radio Club QTC December 13 Page 3 W7RJW Net Working Some local nets to listen in on/participate in. This is one good way to learn how we communicate on the airwaves as amateur (ham) radio operators. I spent a year just listening to a couple of these nets and how experienced operators talk to each other, before I even tried for my Technician license. It REALLY helped me a lot. I strongly recommend doing this on a regular basis. Enjoy! We are in desperate need of your help in a few areas. CCARC NET CONTROL COORDINATOR: Effective 01/01/2014 W7RJW-Rebecca Winters will be resigning her position as the club's net control coordinator. We need a member to volunteer to take this position as soon as possible. A schedule for the net control operators will already be completed so the prospective volunteer would not have to worry about doing one for 2014. Rebecca will be more than happy to train the new coordinator and to make available a job description for the position, as well as make herself available for any support the new coordinator would need. Please contact her by email: w7rjw@yahoo.com cell phone: 360-460-7592 or at any club meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of every month 7pm at the Port Angeles Fire Dept. at 5th and Laurel Streets in Port Angeles. NET CONTROL OPERATORS: We need members to volunteer AT LEAST one Thursday night a year- More than one if you are able to would be greatly appreciated-to be a net control operator. There is a protocol-or script for running the net-as well as a roster of members to be called for roll call. There are only a few members currently volunteering as net control operators and are spread pretty thin. W7RJW is currently working on the schedule for 2014. There will be a signup
