It seems like a big project at first glance but it s actually not too bad We ve made over $40,000 from doing this and I ve got to say it s an EASY way to make money AND provide value for your customers The first thing you need to do is to find Wordpress plugins with PLR licenses They need to come with source code and the license must allow you to make any changes you want and basically do anything with it 1
Once you ve found your existing plugin Google it to see if there are any known glitches or bugs. You ll find this out pretty quickly because people will be moaning about them on forums Write the problems down or bookmark the pages because you ll need this information later The golden nugget Then you need to brainstorm and come up with one thing - ONE FEATURE OR FUNCTION - that will improve the plugin. For example if it s a plugin that automatically finds royalty free images for your blog, you might want to add a function that allows you to insert your affiliate link in the image or a watermark or the name of your blog You might find an idea for this additional function while you re trawling the forums looking for glitches or bugs because often someone will say I wish it did this You only need one improvement The next step is to totally rename the plugin. After that list a job on a freelancer forum (Odesk is good for this) to get a price quote for a coder to add your function and fix any errors Once you have that quote and your numbers stack you can hire someone to fix any glitches you found in your plugin, add your new feature AND change any references to old URL s or the original plugin name that might be hidden in the side In short, you re making the plugin your own. 2
You can also have him insert your new URL (presuming you re selling this from a sales page) and any other information such as contact info or whatever in the code too. When you consider than a simple plugin can be coded from scratch for around $500 you can see how this job would typically come it at around $300 Not much for unique software that you can sell eh? Remember you re handing over the source code for them to work on so they re not having to code anything from scratch, they re just adding a function and correcting any errors. Then register a domain for your plugin and get an cover and a mini-site created. This should cost from $47 - $97 NOTE: Get this done LAST. Wait until you know for sure that the plugin can be fixed before you do this, and if it can t dump it and go find another plugin. If you order your site and graphics AFTER your know the project is viable you won t be caught out financially, as we were once! Once done you ll have a brand new shiny plugin for around $400 - $500 including salespage, branding and domain name. At this point you could even sell the whole package on Flippa and make a small profit without selling a single copy - it s an asset in itself! What you do from this point is up to you You can run a WSO, insert it into your sales funnel, use it as a free giveaway to build your list or do this every month and start a membership site. You can even flip it as I mentioned above 3
I d suggest using part of your profit from selling this to get your next TWO plugins created and keep the momentum (and profit) going. Often we would launch ours and then promote it for a few months. We d cream off the profit, use some of the sales income to get a couple more plugins created and then flip it for a decent lump sum. This is SO easy and SO accessible and I can t believe more people don t do this. There s a huge market for plugins out there and some people seem to buy every one that comes out. If you gather your buyer s names you can sell to them repeatedly every time you create a new plugin. It s such a great little method. Now the first time you do this is a learning curve for sure, and it takes some pulling together but that s what being an entrepreneur is about :) You can take it from me, the rewards are WORTH IT!
