Step 1. Install Sill Flashing Product: 9" or 12" RainBuster #440 SubZero Flashing Tape 1.A Flashing Length = (Rough Opening Width) + 12" 1.B Install sill flashing flush with the sill of the rough opening. Each end of the sill flashing should extend 6" past each side of the rough opening. 1.C Using a J-Roller, apply pressure while rolling entire surface of flashing to ensure adequate adhesion. Step 2. Install Sill Pan End Dams at Window Rough Opening Corners Product: 2.A Precut Sill Pan End Dam to window rough opening framing depth if depth is less than 3". 2.B Apply a 3/8" continuous bead of sealant to the backside of the outside wall legs of the Sill Pan End Dams, ensuring a continuous seal between the Sill Pan End Dams and the flashing/framing. 2.C Position Sill Pan End Dam firmly into window sill/jamb and head/jamb corners. 2.D Install Sill Pan End Dams using nails or staples ensuring secure attachment through the vertical legs only. pg 1 of 6
Step 3. Install Window Sill Pan Flashing Product: 6" or 9" RainBuster #440 SubZero Flashing Tape 3.A Flashing Length = (Rough Opening Width) + 12" 3.B Install window sill pan flashing. The window sill pan flashing should extend the width of the rough opening + 6" up the jamb on each side of the rough opening. Flashing should extend onto the sill the depth of the framing. 3.C Adhere window sill pan flashing across window sill, over Sill Pan End Dams, and up jambs. Press flashing firmly into inside corner eliminating any voids or wrinkles between the flashing and Sill Pan End Dams. 3.D Make relief cut at corner allowing flashing to fold and adhere over sill flashing (minimum 3" lap) and Sill Pan End Dam at jamb. 3.E Using a J-Roller, apply pressure while rolling entire surface of flashing to ensure adequate adhesion. Step 4. Install Jamb Flashing Product: 9" or 12" RainBuster #440 SubZero Flashing Tape 4.A Flashing Length = (Rough Opening Height) + (Sill Flashing Width) + 5" 4.B Position jamb flashing allowing inside edge of flashing to extend into rough opening the depth of the framing. Adhere flashing to outside wall (minimum 6"). Jamb flashing should extend to within 1/2" or flush with the bottom edge of the sill flashing and 5" above the top of the rough opening. 4.C Make a horizontal relief cut in flashing at the header/jamb corner allowing flashing to fold into rough opening. Make L shaped relief cut at the sill/jamb corner allowing flashing to fold into rough opening and over the sill pan flashing. 4.D Adhere flashing to inside face of trimmer, Sill Pan End Dam, and outside wall at rough opening. 4.E Using a J-Roller, apply pressure while rolling the entire surface of jamb flashing to ensure adequate adhesion. pg 2 of 6
Step 5. Install Head Flashing at Rough Opening Product: 12" RainBuster #440 SubZero Flashing Tape 5.A Flashing Length = (Rough Opening Width) + (Width of Jamb Flashings on Outside Wall) + 2" 5.B Position head flashing allowing bottom edge of flashing to extend into rough opening the depth of the framing. Adhere flashing to outside wall (minimum 6"). 5.C Make vertical relief cuts in flashing at the header/jamb corners allowing flashing to fold into rough opening. 5.D Adhere flashing to bottom of header and Sill Pan End Dams, and outside wall, at top of rough opening. 5.E Using a J-Roller, apply pressure while rolling the entire surface of jamb flashing to ensure adequate adhesion. Step 6. Install Block Frame Window Product: Fasteners & Shims by others (non-rainbuster product) 6.A Install block frame window per manufacturer s installation specifications ensuring window is securely fastened and plumb, level, and square. Shim window on all four sides maintaining a minimum 1/4" reveal (gap) between the window and framing. Note: When shimming take care to not place shims where backer rod and sealant will be installed at the exterior of the frame in the next step. pg 3 of 6
1/4 1/4 Step 7. Install Backer Rod into Window/Framing Joint Product: Backer Rod by others (non-rainbuster product) 7.A Install backer rod into window/framing joint at the sill, jambs, and head. Backer rod should be positioned in the joint to a depth equal to the width of the joint up to 1/2" (If the joint is 1/4" in width, the backer rod should be set at 1/4" depth). 7.B Leave 1" voids in the backer rod 2" from either end of the window at the sill of the window. pg 4 of 6
Step 8. Apply Sealant into Window/Framing Joint at Sill, Jambs, & Head Product: 8.A Apply a continuous bead of sealant into the window/framing joint over the backer rod. Tool sealant to promote adhesion. Tooled sealant joint should be flush with the exterior face of the framing when finished. 8.B Leave 1" voids in the sealant 2" from either end of the window at the sill of the window. Step 9. Apply Sealant at Interior of Window Product: 9.A Apply a 3/8"-1/2" continuous bead of sealant at the window/flashing joint at the interior perimeter of the window sealing the window to the flashing. 9.B Tool sealant into window/flashing joint ensuring continuous seal. pg 5 of 6
Step 10. Install Drip Cap Product: Metal Drip Cap by Others 10.A Drip Cap Length = (Window Frame Width) + 1/2" 10.B Apply a 1/4"-3/8" continuous bead of sealant to the top of the window, across the entire length of the window. Sealant bead should be located 3/8" from the outside face of the window ensuring continuous window/sealant/drip cap contact across the entire length of the window after the drip cap is installed. 10.C Install drip cap using nails or screws. Fasten through the up-leg (mounting flange) per manufacturer s installation specifications. Drip cap should extend past either end of the window by 1/4". 10.D After the drip cap is installed, sealant squeeze out should be visible at each end of the drip cap at the drip cap/window joint. Tool sealant flat ensuring continuous seal between the drip cap and window. Step 11. Install Self-Adhered Flashing over Drip Cap Up-Leg (Mounting Flange) Product: 9" RainBuster #440 SubZero Flashing Tape 11.A Flashing Length = (Rough Opening Width) + (2 X Flashing Width) + 2" 11.B Adhere flashing over dip cap up-leg (mounting flange). Bottom edge of flashing should be a 1/4 above horizontal surface of drip cap and should extend the width of the existing flashing. 11.C Using a J-Roller, apply pressure while rolling entire surface of flashing to ensure adequate adhesion. 11.D Fasten with staples along top edge of flashing. Use minimum number of fasteners required to keep flashing in place. Installation Recommendations: It is recommended that backing (OSB, plywood, dimensional lumber) be installed to support flashing at all window and door openings. Installation substrates should be clean and free from substances and protrusions that could adversely effect adhesion and/or compromise flashing/membrane performance. When an installation requires adhering RainBuster #415 Self-Adhered Flashing Membrane directly to the substrate (OSB, plywood, fiberglass faced gypsum board, masonry, and concrete) an adhesion test is recommended to ensure sufficient adhesion is achieved. Adhesion may be improved by rolling the membrane with a J-roller. In some cases priming the surface with an approved primer may be required to achieve sufficient adhesion. In 3-coat stucco applications, it s recommended that all flashing be covered by the Weather Resistive Barrier (WRB). After the WRB has been properly integrated (weather board/ship lap fashion) with the window and door flashing systems an additional piece of WRB should be installed over the sill flashing acting as a bond breaker. pg 6 of 6
