12th Annual Quilt Fest thrives A trailer pulled by an antique tractor gives patients and caretakers from Ayers Health and Rehabilitation Center a view of the quilt festival. Story, Photos and Video By Jeff M. Hardison March 19, 2018 at 9:08 a.m. All Copyrights Reserved TRENTON -- Any festival group in the Tri-County Area of Levy, Dixie and Gilchrist counties will be hard-pressed to outdo the Annual Suwannee Valley Quilt and Old Time Craft Festival that happened Saturday (March 17) in Trenton.

Dance Demonstration In this video, some members of Destin's Dance and Fitness Academy of Bell have fun dancing to some music at the quilt festival. They are performing to -- I'm a Believer which is a song composed by Neil Diamond and recorded by The Monkees in 1966 with the lead vocals by Micky Dolenz. The dancers here are Jennifer Metzel, Sarah Smith, Tori Tuten, Joyce Norton, Mackenzie Martin, Leslei Bryan and Sara Metzel. This particular video includes material that is copyrighted by a music company. That company allows use of this video with its music, however there MAY be ads with this video and the revenue from those ads goes to the music owner NOT to. In this still shot taken from the video, some members of Destin's Dance and Fitness Academy of Bell have fun dancing to some music at the quilt festival. They are performing to -- I'm a Believer which is a song composed by Neil Diamond and recorded by The Monkees in 1966 with the lead vocals by Micky Dolenz. Azaleas in downtown Trenton are similar to those in the surrounding countryside and cities in the Tri-County Area of Levy, Dixie and Gilchrist counties. One Chiefland resident commented that the azaleas at her home are blooming with extraordinary splendor. One of the many roses of downtown Trenton reflects that plants are reacting as if spring is here. Some people who planted vegetables earlier in plants and did not cover them during the most recent freeze, however, experienced a loss of that crop of tomatoes and peppers.

There were quilts all over the downtown Trenton area on Saturday. Here a couple of festival visitors look at some on the southwestern part of the display area. Eileen Westwood of Scooooder Stones of Bronson stands with candles, jewelry, plants and other items. Her partner in this venture is Mike Hill. He also owns Hilltop Fence of Bronson.

This magnificent quilt shows a wide range of different kinds of birds. It is bordered by a brown nest scene as the background and there are eggs in the nests.

A cat is seen in the quilt of birds and eggs.

Artistic furniture was available at the festival. Even hats made of wood are sold to festivalgoers.

The Camp Valor Project had a booth at the event. Seen here (from left) are Mary Ann Mulvey, Karen Richardson and Bob Denny. There were a number of outlets for consumers to buy various food and beverages.

Quilt Camp - The Quilt 'What happens at Quilt Camp STAYS AT QUILT CAMP.' Below John L. Colson of Chiefland is among the woodworking artists selling works at the event. Here is an example of how it is sometimes difficult to see a person in the shade when there is sunlight in the photo too.

Magnolia Bloom Quilt

Inside one of the buildings along Main Street, Mary Peer (left) and Sara Pedroni of the Alachua County Day Guild Quilters were helping people buy items from their guild. David Doucet of Gainesville holds a Gator he made from wood. He had items from other teams available as well.

The Quilt Museum on Main Street in Trenton was one of the focal points for quilters on Saturday. The Quilt Museum of Levy County is in a different place.

A couple of contrails (trails of condensed water from aircraft at high altitude, seen as white streaks) are seen in the sky behind these metal works of art that are birds.

A wide range or works of art are seen at the festival. The event was concentrated in one area; the vendors were topnotch; the demonstrations were interesting; the entertainment was fun and free; the displays were colorful, creative, well-placed, plentiful and thoughtful; and the festival-goers as well as the eventproducers were friendly, helpful and polite. There were zillions of people at the festival this year. The natural talent and natural resources shown in downtown Trenton on Saturday was plentiful. Located in space that went from just north of the Suwannee Rose Café, south to Hitchcock s Foodway (State Road 26), and with eastern and western borders of Main Street (U.S. Highway 129) and Northwest Third Street respectively, there were at least five blocks of Trenton s Main Street (U.S. Highway 129) that were closed to vehicular traffic. Festival-goers strolled among indoor and outdoor displays. They enjoyed visiting with vendors and with the demonstrators and exhibitioners throughout the festival area. There were scores of booths of people and groups displaying or selling crafts such as quilts, purses, rugs, clothes, restored antiques, jewelry, aprons, insulated cups, tapestry tote bags, paintings, pencil sketchings, soaps, knickknacks and more. The festival featured quilt artists from everywhere from Archer to Live Oak and beyond. Many local guilds displayed and sold quilts of both the traditional and modern designs. Festival sponsors included the Gilchrist County Chamber of Commerce. The weather was perfect this year, and a good time was had by all.
