Michelle Andrade was born in Encino, CA in 1972. She received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2005 and an MFA from Otis College of Art and Design in 2007. Michelle has exhibited in Chicago, Houston, and throughout Southern California. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles. Michelle Andrade s work is a journalistic exploration into the everyday sprawl of the mundane. Her brightly colored, whimsical drawings draw the viewer in, but a closer look reveals her personal anxieties, struggles, and insecurities. The fragmented thoughts and phrases that run through her drawings are both dark and humorous. Taken out of context, these thoughts and phrases, juxtaposed with a playful aesthetic become accessible. 2008 STATION group show, El Nopal Press, Los Angeles, CA A Sight for Sour Eyes, STATION Studios, Los Angeles, CA 2007 Group Show, Short House, Los Angeles, CA Otis MFA Thesis Show, Bolsky Gallery, Los Angeles, CA Remove, Bolsky Gallery, Los Angeles, CA Resolutions, Bolsky Gallery, Los Angeles, CA 2006 doubletake, Gallery Duo, Los Angeles, CA Chain Letter, High Energy Constructs, Los Angeles, CA Group Show, 6147, Los Angeles, CA EDUCATION: Graduate: Otis College of Art and Design, 2005-2007: MFA Undergraduate: The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, 2003-2005: BFA EXHIBITIONS: 2011 Pulse Contemporary Art Fair, Charlie James Gallery, Miami, FL Texas Contemporary Art Fair, Charlie James Gallery, Houston, TX Pulse Contemporary Art Fair, Charlie James Gallery, Los Angeles, CA Chain Letter, Shoshana Wayne Gallery, Santa Monica, CA Incognito, Santa Monica Museum of Art, Santa Monica, CA 2005 SAIC BFA Show, Gallery 2, Chicago, IL Group Show, Clark Gallery, Chicago, IL Group Show, Gallery 2, Chicago, IL 2004 Stray Show, Chicago, IL (through General Store, Milwaukee, WI) Juried Exhibition, the Gallery, Pasadena City College, Pasadena, CA Group Show, the Gallery, Pasadena City College, Pasadena, CA 2010 Shangrila, Joshua Tree, CA Sensate Rainbow, Project Room G3, San Pedro, CA 2009 Station Must Go, Raw Materials, Los Angeles, CA Creative Arts Group Faculty Show, Jameson Gallery, Sierra Madre, CA Flying White Cube, SF1 Gallery, Los Angeles, CA Kaleidoscopic, Phantom Galleries, Long Beach, CA
