Freddie Mercury Pattern notes Terminology This pattern is written in American crochet terminology, which differs from British terminology in some instances. The following table of terms used in this pattern will help should you wish to translate one to the other. American (US) British (UK) ch chain ch chain Slst slip stitch ss slip stitch sc single crochet dc double crochet hdc half double crochet htr half treble crochet dc double crochet tr treble crochet skip miss Abbreviations & Symbols cm centimeters g grams invdec invisible decrease mm millimeters Rnd(s) Round(s) st(s) stitch(es) sc2tog single crochet 2 stitches together ( ) Round brackets indicate: A group of stitches to be worked into the same stitch or space, or The amount of stitches you should have on completion of the round or row it follows, or Explanatory notes within the pattern. [ ] Square brackets contain a group of stitches to be worked the amount of times indicated after the brackets inches Special Stitch Explanation: Invdec This is a good way of decreasing in amigurumi when you need a tight, smooth fabric as this technique will eliminate bumps and holes in the fabric and will be almost completely invisible. Insert hook into front loop only of first stitch, do not wrap yarn, insert hook into front loop only of next stitch. You will now have a total of three loops on your hook. Wrap your yarn around hook and pull through both of the 2 front loops on the hook, wrap yarn around hook again and pull through last 2 loops on hook. You have now invisibly decreased by one stitch. Sc2tog This decrease method is easier to use with when working decreases on a back loop only round. Insert hook into st, wrap yarn round hook and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st, wrap yarn round hook and draw up a second loop. You will now have 3 loops on hook. Wrap yarn round hook again and draw through all 3 loops on hook. Freddie 2015 Moji-Moji Design Page 2

Once you reach the edge of jacket make 3 ch, Slst in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, now surface crochet back to your starting point making all stitches underneath the same posts you previously crocheted under. (fig.8) Repeat twice more with a two row gap between each strap beginning at the points indicated in fig.9 by the hook and point (a). For topmost strap crochet a line of 5 sc stitches starting at front of armhole as indicated in fig.9 - point (b), and repeat the process as for the longer straps until you return to your starting point. Straps - Left Hand Side Repeat straps as for right hand side but once you reach the edge of the jacket this time just make 3 ch then crochet back to your starting point as you did before. (fig.10) Sleeves Pull up a loop of Yellow yarn in a st at edge of armhole, 1 ch (does not count as a st), sc in same st as join, sc in remaining 9 st around armhole. Collar top With front of jacket facing you, pull up a loop of White yarn in st at far right of collar, 1 ch (does not count as a st), sc in same st as join, sc in each of next 23 st to end of collar. Fasten off, weave in ends. Sew small metal hoops such as those used for jewellery making to the ends of each of the left hand side straps. (fig.12) Feed arms through the sleeves. This is a tight fit so put your crochet hook down the sleeve and hook through the end of the arm then you will be able to wiggle the arm through by pulling at it and easing the sleeve down. fig.11 fig.12 Please feel free to share your Moji-Moji creations on my Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/mojimojidesign I'd love to see what you've made! Microphone Head With Gray yarn make 2 ch. 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6 sts) Rnds 2-3 (2 rounds) Grip Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail of about 30cm. Thread yarn tail onto yarn needle, pick up front loop only of remaining 7 stitches. Pull tight to close the hole. Fasten off. Weave in end. Cut a 4cm piece of bamboo skewer, apply a little glue to the end and poke into the microphone head. Use the remainder of the yarn tail to wind around the skewer that is sticking out. Wind the yarn from the top to the bottom of the skewer, winding several times around the base of the microphone head so this bit is fatter than the end. Leave the yarn tail attached at the end for the lead. Secure the yarn in place with glue. Pole Now cut a 12 cm piece of skewer and use a craft knife to trim one of the ends at an angle. Apply a little glue to the angled part and stick to the microphone. Wind a second length of Gray yarn down the length of the long pole securing with glue at the top and bottom. Take a third length of Gray yarn and sew to the end of the microphone for the lead. Use a knitting needle, or another skewer to make a hole through the hand and insert the microphone stand through this. Sew lead through the other hand and knot the end to stop it from being pulled out. Now your Freddie is ready to rock!
