12. Do a test of the ELT system. A. Do a test of the ELT transmitter. NOTE: Do the ELT transmission test within the first five minutes after the hour. NOTE: To prevent satellite detection, do not keep the remote switch in the on position for more than 15 seconds. During the first 15 seconds, the satellite system will process the 406.025 mhz signal as a test and ignore the transmission. If the transmission is longer than 15 seconds, the satellite system will process the transmission as a real distress signal. (1) Put the avionics power switches to the ON position. (2) Tune the number one or number two comm radio to 121.5 and set the appropriate comm and cockpit speaker on the audio panel. Apply power to FMS 1 and initialize a valid GPS position. (3) Turn the ELT switch to the ON position. (a) (b) (c) (d) Wait for one second. NOTE: Observe the LED light when the switch is moved to the ARM position. Move the switch to the ARM position. If the LED light stays on for one second after the switch is moved to the ARM position, then no faults exist. If a problem is detected then the LED will provide a coded signal after the one second pulse. (4) Disengage the ELT/NAV INTERFACE circuit breaker in the aft power J-Box for a minimum of one minute. B. (Airplanes with NAV interface) Retrieve the 15 bit Hex ID. (Refer to Cessna Engineering Drawing 9603067 for test set-up procedures.) NOTE: For the purpose of identifying the 15 bit Hex ID, the FMS must stay off. (1) Engage the ELT/NAV INTERFACE circuit breaker. (2) Move the ELT switch to the ON position. (3) Put the ELT switch in the ARM (OFF) position. (4) Make sure that the correct Mode S code was received on the SARSAT beacon test set. (5) Make sure that the 15 bit Hex ID was received on the SARSAT beacon test set. (6) Record the 15 bit hex ID on the label of the ELT. (7) Record the 15 bit hex ID on the Maintenance Transaction Report. (8) Do the test as necessary until satisfactory results are received with a 15-second delay between tries. C. (Airplanes with NAV interface) Do a test of the NAV interface. (1) Engage the ELT/NAV INTERFACE circuit breaker. (2) Initialize the FMS. Revision 3 - Jun 11/2010 Page 6

(3) Move the ELT switch to the ON position. (4) Put the ELT switch in the ARM (OFF) position. (5) Make sure that the correct Mode S code was received on the SARSAT beacon test set. (6) Make sure that the latitude and longitude were received on the SARSAT beacon test set matches the FMS position. (7) Do the test as necessary until satisfactory results are received with a 15-second delay between tries. 13. Record that this service bulletin has been completed. A. Complete a Maintenance Transaction Report. B. Put a copy of the completed Maintenance Transaction Report in the airplane logbook with the 15 digit hex code that was recorded from the SARSAT tester written on it. C.
