CITY OF PITTSBURG ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT CONTRACT NO. 2012-16A WATER TREATEMENT PLANT CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS PHASE 1A ADDENDUM #1 FENCE AND DITCH AUGUST 2014 CHAIN LINK FENCE SPECIFICATIONS Chain link fence, as follows: 8'0" high chain link fence plus 1'0", 3 strands of barbed wire at top (three-strand 45-degree arm angling the arm out from the secured area) for a total height of 9'0", consisting of 2-inch mesh 6 gauge chain link fabric, 2 3/8-inch line posts spaced a maximum of 10'0" o.c., 7 gauge coil spring wire at top, secured to the chain link fabric with 9 gauge hog rings spaced not greater than 12", 1 5/8-inch o.d. bottom rail, chain link fabric secured to line post and bottom rail at a maximum of 12 inches o.c. using 9 gauge tie wire. 2 7/8-inch o.d. end and corner posts complete with 1 5/8-inch o.d. brace rail, 3/8-inch truss assembly, 12 gauge tension bands secured at a maximum of 12 inches o.c., tension bar, necessary, fittings, nuts, bolts. bottom rail - the bottom of the fence with bottom rail shall be installed no greater than 2 inches above grade. Project inspection: There will be a mandatory requirement for reviewing material certifications and shop drawings prior to start of the project. This will ensure that proper products will be installed, and that specific installation guidelines have been provided. Typical detail: Typical detail of an eight foot high with one foot, 3-strand barbed wire security fence. Installation for the City of Pittsburg Water Treatment Plant will not include securing the bottom rail in the middle. Manufacturers A. Chain Link Fence: One of the following or equal: 1. Galvanizing: For items not fabricated of galvanized materials hot-dip galvanize products after fabrication in accordance with following as applicable: a) ASTM A 123. b) ASTM A 153. c) ASTM A 385. d) Mark galvanized products with name of galvanize, applicable ASTM designation, and weight of zinc coating. e) Galvanize fabricated items complete, or in largest practicable sections. f) Provide galvanizing at rate of 2.0 ounces per square foot, minimum. B. Finish Schedule: 2. Ferrous Metal: a) Typical: Clean, then hot-dip galvanize in accordance with galvanizing standards. C.Field Finish Touch-Up Painting: 1. Galvanized Repair Paint: Apply paint having minimum dry film thickness of 2.0 to 3.5 mils. PREPARATION A. Surface Preparation: 1. Before locating fence post, grade ground to permit grade of fence to remain constant over any local elevations or depression in ground line. INSTALLATION: A.Fence and Gates: 1. Chain Link Fences And Gates: a) General: 1. Provide fence systems that are plumb, taut, true to line and grade, and complete in all details. 2. Install fencing to generally follow finish grade of concrete lined ditch and provide pull post at points where required to confirm to change in grade. 3. Install fencing such that space between bottom of fence and finished ground line does not exceed 2 inches B. Concrete Foundation For Fence Posts: 1. See cross section on Sheet CS-1ADD for installation of post within concrete lined ditch. 2. Set fence post in concrete foundations that extends at least 3 feet into ground (including concrete lined ditch) and space post not over 10 feet apart. 3. Provide concrete foundations having minimum 10 inches in diameter for line posts and 12 inches for corners and gates. 4. Finish exposed concrete fence post caps off in workmanlike manner. C. Post Bracing: 1. End Corner and Pull Post: Brace with same material as top rail and trussed to line posts with 3/8 inch rods and tighteners. 2. Bracing End, Corner, and Slope Posts. D. Rail: b) Brace to midpoint of nearest line post or posts with horizontal braces used as compression members. c) Then from such line posts truss from brace back to bottom of end, corner, slope, or gate post with 3/8 inch steel truss rods with turnbuckles or other suitable tightening devices used as tension members. 1. Install fencing with bottom rail and top tension wire. E. Fabric: 1. Place fabric on outward facing side of the posts and install so that the top edge protects over top rail of fence. 2. Stretch fabric taut and securely fasten to posts, top rail and bottom tension wire. 3. Install tension wire parallel to limit of fabric. 4. Fabric: Connect fabric to: a) Line posts with wire clips minimum every 14 inches. b) Terminal, corner, and gate posts with tension bars tied to posts minimum 14 inches on center and with steel bands and bolts and nuts. c) Tension wires with hog rings minimum 24 inches on center F. Post Top Fittings: Provide post tops with extension arms. CLEANING: A.Clean up surplus dirt, concrete and other waste material and dress grade up upon completion of the work B. Contractor to remove exciting fence and poles and dispose of materials. PROTECTION A.Protect existing improvements to remain and new improvement and, if damaged, repair prior to final inspection. MISCELLANEOUS A. Contractor responsible for notifying adjacent property owners of on going work. a. An initial letter shall be delivered to each affected residence 2 weeks prior to beginning work. The letter shall describe the work taking place, when the work will occur, how long the property owner will be without fencing and the contractor's contact information for coordinating special considerations (i.e. pets, existing improvements, etc.). b. One day prior to beginning work another letter shall be delivered to each affected residence as a reminder of the work to take place and shall include the contractor's contact information. B.
