Aloha! Thank you for choosing the Hohner Kids HU212 as your first ukulele. The ukulele is a fun instrument that is very easy to play. This booklet will instruct you on the basics of how to hold the instrument, tuning, strumming and fingering. Kids of all ages can strum one finger chords along to their favorite songs. So pick up your new Hohner Kids uke and let s get started! Parts of the Ukulele Headstock E A Nut rets Top Lower Bout Tuning Machines G Neck Saddle Upper Bout Using your electronic tuner: Brand new strings do take time to stretch out before they will hold their tune, so it is not uncommon that you will have to re-tune often at the beginning. *Watch out!* Tightening the string too much may cause the string to break. Using your electronic tuner is the quickest, easiest way to get your ukulele up to pitch. Keep a close eye on the display when you pluck the individual strings. The tuner will automatically register the note that you are playing. Increase or decrease the tension until the display shows the proper note of the string you are tuning. Once you are in the proper range you can fine tune the string. If you are showing that the note is flat (b) increase the tension on the string until the center light shows green. If you are sharp (#) release tension on the string until the center light shows green. The chart to the right will tell you what notes and relationships the strings are to each other. Tune each string as shown below [See igure 1]. Press and hold the 5th fret of the 2nd string and tune to equal the pitch of the first string by turning the 2nd string tuning peg clockwise to raise the pitch or counter-clockwise to lower [See igure 2].
