2 Getting Started Contact gutsywalk@crohnsandcolitis.ca so we can connect you to a Crohn s and Colitis Canada representative that will assist you. Prefer to do it on your own? No problem. Have a team strategy. Set your team s goals for fundraising and the number of team members you would like to join your team. Connect with your management team for support. Think of a cool team name. You know you have one mind! Register your team at gutsywalk.ca. What s your story? Personalize your personal and team fundraising pages telling everyone why you and your team are supporting Gutsy Walk. Schedule an internal team kick-off. Invite your colleagues, including management.

Leading up to the walk 3 Pledge yourself first to show your commitment to the team s fundraising goal. Send emails from the online site inviting colleagues, family and friends to support you by joining your team or by donating to you. Ensure your team members are fundraising online or have a pledge form. Offer your assistance, if needed. Determine if your company is providing fundraising incentives, and add this to your communications Request for your management team to post about your Gutsy Walk team on the company s social media accounts. Spread the word: o Place Gutsy Walk posters and/or team thermometer around the office o Add Gutsy Walk to your internal TV o Include an article in the company newsletter to recruit fellow co-workers to join your team. This will also be a great opportunity to share your story. o Talk to your management team if a Gutsy Walk slide can be added to internal presentations Make plans for Walk Day: o Decide on a time and place for your team to meet o Designate a photographer in your team to take pictures o Designate a social media person in your team to do live posts at the walk. Remember to use #gutsywalk o Remind team mates to use pledge forms if they have any cheques or cash to bring on walk day.

4 Walk Day Arrive early! Proceed to the Registration area and mention that you are a corporate team Take photos and post them online. Use #gutsywalk Celebrate with your team and have fun!

5 Post-Walk Way to go! Enjoy your success! Send thank-you notes to all your teammates and donors who helped make your team s fundraising a success. Follow-up with team members who didn t make it to Gutsy Walk to let them know how to submit their offline monies. They can also contact gutsywalk@crohnsandcolitis.ca Promote with your team that they can continue to fundraise for up to 3 weeks after the Walk to reach their next incentive level.

10 Tips Aim high with your fundraising goal A fundraising goal of $1,000 or more can feel daunting. We get that. But showing that sort of commitment to the cause can lead to larger pledges from your donors. Remember there s no shame in not reaching an ambitious goal; any amount you raise will help better the lives of people impacted by Crohn s or colitis. Share your story Once you have a fundraising page established, personalize it by sharing why the Gutsy Walk matters to you. Do you care for a child with Crohn s or colitis? Do you take on IBD yourself? Have you overcome challenges after a surgery? This is where you can show potential donors why funds are needed, and the good those funds can do.

11 Tips Get asking One of the main reasons people don t pledge is because they simply weren t asked. People want to make a difference, as you do, and they ll often step up when asked. Use the Participant Centre to email your contacts to ask for their support. Ask your friends, family, coworkers, and anyone else who could add their support. Get social Use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media accounts to spread the word about your walk. Include a link to your fundraising page in your tweets and Facebook posts. Put the link in your Instagram bio. Share the link with your professional connections on LinkedIn. The more people you reach out to, the better your chances of finding donors.

12 Tips Gather pledges offline and track your progress While most Gutsy Walk donations are made online, you can still find funds from folks who prefer to make contributions by cash or cheque. Print off a pledge form so you can add offline donations to your tally, and use the fundraising thermometer to keep you moving towards your goal. Keep in touch with your donors Use the Participant Centre to send thank you emails to the fine folks who have donated to your walk. The sooner you send a personalized thank you after receiving a donation, the better. It s a nice touch to send a thank you message to all of your donors after the walk to let them know how the day went and how much their contribution is appreciated.

Fundraising Ideas 13 Raising money for charity at work can also be fun! Brainstorm with your Gutsy Walk team (and clear with your management team) to find what activities will be engaging, manageable, and of course, fun. Here are some ideas: Cookie gram or candy-gram this also facilitates peer appreciation, and is an overall feel-good activity. Office Olympics set up a mini putt, a bowling lane, a fabric and velcro dartboard, etc. Use your imagination. Scavenger hunt you can even use your company s facts for clues. Silent auction and/or raffle draw Garage sale Potluck lunch/brunch Bake sale it s even more fun when you make it a bakeoff competition Bowling night set up challenges and funny team names High tea a great afternoon pick-me-up Costume party ugly sweater, cosplay, 80 s theme, etc. Pet therapy ask staff members to bring their pets to mingle and spread cuteness in the office and they will charge for therapy sessions that will go to the cause. Dress down days Paint night in the office Spare change jar most effective when placed at the reception area. Movie at work set up a boardroom to show a movie, and don t forget the popcorn! Game on you can do Bingo, a board game, or charades! Collect donations in exchange for services afternoon coffee run, personal reminders, a home-cooked lunch, personalized poems, etc.

14 Don t forget to check with your management team before confirming your activities.
