Reading 2 The Magic of Harry Potter Harry Potter is a series of seven fantasy novels written by a British author, J.K. Rowling. There was a time when no one knew the name Harry Potter. Now the Harry Potter books had been translated into 67 languages and had been sold over 250 million copies worldwide. Rowling, the creator of Harry Potter, started to write the first Harry Potter book in 1990. The idea of the boy wizard came to her when she was on a train trip to London. She said that the character just popped in to her mind. Before long, she created a whole cast of special characters to help Harry Potter fight the power of darkness. The first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone, was published in 1997 and became an unexpected bestseller. The seventh book, which Rowling has stated to be the last in the series, wrapped up the story and was released in 2007. Through 2010, the first six books have been made in to films by Warner Brothers. The Harry Potter film series has become the highest-grossing film series in history, surpassing the world-famous James Bond film series. 8
