Several Postdoc and PhD positions at the Salzburg Center for Smart Materials University of Salzburg invites applications for several positions in a multidisciplinary project on smart materials. In a joint effort between three research labs, this project aims to forge new links between material science and human-computer interaction. The successful candidates will form part of an interdisciplinary team that aims to create new stable and accessible materials that allow for novel interfaces and meaningful interactions. In order to achieve this aim, the project will address the development of new (functional) hybrid materials based on sol-gel processing of biogenic and ceramic precursors and apply constructive design research to unveil the potential of those new (interactive) materials. The Salzburg Center for Smart Materials is a joint project of the Department Chemistry and Physics of Materials and the Center for Human-Computer Interaction at the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg in collaboration with the research department Forest Products Technology & Timber Construction at Salzburg University of Applied Sciences. This project is co-funded by the European Fund for regional revelopment (www.efre.gv.at). Successful candidates will be affiliated to one of the following hosting partners: The Department Chemistry and Physics of Materials capitalizes on its interdisciplinary approach which involves the disciplines chemistry, physics, materials science and mineralogy and addresses the design and development of inorganic materials, nanomaterials and hybrids as well as functional interfaces derived therefrom. The Center for Human-Computer Interaction is a highly interdisciplinary research group at the University of Salzburg. About 30 researchers study the interplay between humans and computers in order to enable desired interactions and explore desirable futures. The Center is committed to contemporary HCI thinking and address current research questions, while also valuing established methodology and formerly prevalent domains. What we offer: Interdisciplinary, vibrant groups of researchers A multi-year research project with a ground-breaking, trans-disciplinary vision Extraordinary research facilities that support individual styles of working An international, well-established network of research and industry partners
