How to Make Multi-Level Basements I am making a castle as the result of this tutorial, but there are as many uses for this building option as there are imaginations. And like your imagination there are as many ways to create multi-level basements. A couple of the things I ve made are 1) an 10-level deep underground sci-fi inspired experimental lab with invisible stairs (pre-elevator) where the only thing observable above ground was a pavilion in the center of a park and 2) a restaurant above a 4-level deep sporting and entertainment community lot. I use walls in my basements, so you will be able to do anything with them that you can an above ground wall. I am only going 2 levels deep making a basement & sublevel dungeon it will become a faerie tale castle from the Grimm Brother s original tales. I felt 2 levels easier to follow for the first time and you will see that this method is easily adaptable for deeper levels. You will need to know and are going to use the following: 1. boolprop constrainfloorelevation false/true code. 2. For each level deep you need 3 sets of connecting stairs; or you can brave the level-down tool counting method which is extremely scary to me because anytime I go past one basement level I manage click too hard and end up with odd numbers. 3. Save often. FYI, you may experience game crashing and computer slowness if you have too many levels on a lot. I have never be able to find enough uses for more than 8 levels above +/or below ground, but I have a limited imagination and get bored easily. To be perfectly honest I could not see down into the dark abyss when I went for 10 levels and I think I got them through more luck than skill. I can give you a couple of tips for the deeper levels: 1) use the down view and 2) use the boolprop allobjectlightson true code and put lights in the hole as you add levels. Tiko, in his Swimmable Sea Islands tutorial noted in Steps #26 & #27 that he went 150 clicks or 9 levels + 6 steps and he said, in theory you can go down 16 levels. As for the number of levels high I managed personally 17 using the sethighestallowedlevel [1 to?] before my game crashed (not the greatest video card on my old computer). I d be very interested to know if anyone has gone beyond those levels. Okay, now that we have the basics out of the way we can get started. Page - 1 -
Step 1 Setup. A. Click and drag, using the leveling tool, to level the lot (or the area you wish to build your basements under). Page - 2 -
Step 1 Cont. B. Place 6 sets of connecting stairs (remember to add 1 set of 3 connecting stairs for each deeper level). The stairs do not have to be in a row as you see here; you can turn corners to utilize all the space for deeper levels. Page - 3 -
Step 1 Cont. C. Lower the ground from the lowest depth (the base of the last connecting stair. You can delete the steps before or after you do this depending on whether or not your steps are in the way of your future basements. Step 1 Cont. D. After removing your stairs you will want to level the surrounding ground. It is hard to see here, but the ground is 2 stories deep at its lowest point. Page - 4 -
Step 2 Building. A. Build walls in the lowest level. B. Move up one level and place another room above the first. You will do this for every level you have created. The last level should stick above the ground like you see here. Page - 5 -
Step 2 Cont. C. Place any flooring on top of the highest basement level and yes, you can change this flooring at any time once the basement has been made. Page - 6 -
Step 2 Cont. D. Build a wall around the cliff edge --1 square outside of your basement wall. Page - 7 -
Step 2 Cont. E. Now a 2 nd floor. Again, you will add as many as you have levels below ground. F. Code time. Click Ctrl/Shift C to open the dialogue box and type in boolprop constrainfloorelevation false. Page - 8 -
Step 3 Finish the Basements. A. Click and drag another floor over the one you previously created. Sounds weird, but trust me it will do something magical. Be careful to cover all of the flooring, but NOTHING more. Weird things can happen to your house if you are not careful, but you can always reverse if it doesn t turn out right. B. Cool, it is flat. Now we ll turn off the code so that we don t have any accidents by opening the dialogue box and typing in boolprop constrainfloorelevation true. Page - 9 -
Step 3 Cont. C. Cover the rest of the floor area. D. Here you see the lowest or 2 nd -level basement. Add staircases or connecting stairs, flooring, etc. Page - 10
Step 3 Cont. E. And here is the upper basement. F. All done with building your basements. All that is left to do is the creating/decorating phase. Page - 11
Here is the finished lot. Subtly secreted beneath this castle are my dungeons. You can download it on TSR under the name Faerie Tale Castle. Page - 12
