LANCASHIRE AND CHESHIRE PHOTOGRAPHIC UNION The Big Day featuring The Novice Cup We would like to cordially invite you to participate in the 2nd Novice Cup Event. On Sunday 14th October 2018 starting at 10.00am (Door open from 9.30am) Location: Elmbank Conference Centre, Half Edge Lane, Eccles M30 9BA This event is designed to promote competitions and distinctions to club members would not generally get involved in the existing annual club competition or the knockout competition. It will be open to all clubs, but only club members who currently do not have any qualification or accreditation can enter, and it would only be open to images that have not already been used in the knock out or annual clubs competition or received an award in a national or international competition. The Novice Cup is an un-mounted A4 print competition, and is in two sections. Open Colour and Open Monochrome. We are also asking entrants to upload a digital version this year which will be used during the awards presentation. Each club can enter 6 images from 6 different authors in each section. During the closed judging sessions we will provide a number of lectures provided by well known and established photographers from our own and adjoining federations. We will have individuals medals for the highest scoring best image in each section, with a number of ribbons for the runners up. We will also have a trophy (The Novice Cup) for the overall winning club with the highest total score of both sections.

Annual Novice Cup Rules and Guidelines Date Sunday 14th October 2018 Venue Judges Elmbank Banqueting & Conference Centre 46 Half Edge Lane, Eccles, M30 9BA Online Entry Opens 6th September 2018 Howard Tate, Andrew Pell & Stephanie Cook (YPU) Online Entry Closes Sunday 7th October 2018 Print Submission Delivered on the day Ticket Price 15.00 (available on sale from 6th September 2018) Notes Rules (Includes Tea, Coffee and Buffet Dinner) The venue can accommodate 150 seated. Tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis. 1. The Competition is open to all L&CPU Federated Clubs. 2. A photographer may only enter images for one club. 3. Images must be from a novice worker and have not been previously awarded in a federation, national or international salon, exhibition or competition. (see definition of novice) 4. An Image may only be used once in the competition. 5. The sections will be as follows: Open Colour Prints Open Monochrome Prints 6. The following awards are available: Best Colour Print Club Entry Awarded to the club with highest total score in the colour print section. Best Monochrome Print Club Entry Awarded to the club with highest total score in the monochrome print section. The Novice Cup Best Colour Print Best Monochrome Print Commended Awarded to the club with the highest total club score in all sections. 8. Each section has an entry of six Images from not less than six photographers. 9. No photographer may enter more than one image in any one section. 10. A club must enter a full entry in both sections 11. Different photographers may enter other sections. 12. The section results are calculated by the total scores of all six images entered in that section. 13. The Overall Award would be the result of the grand total of ALL sections. 14. Prints must be A4 and un-mounted 15. A digital version (1600 x 1200) can be uploaded to the online entry system. 16. Entrants must own the copyright of all images used in their entry. 17. Prints can be produced by a third party 18. The Lancashire & Cheshire Photographic Union accepts no liability for any breach of copyright by an entrant. 19. Entries must be all the work of the stated Author. 20. The L&CPU reserve the right to display digital versions of any image on their website. 21. Copyright remains with the photographer. 22. Clubs are responsible for delivering the prints on the day. 23. All prints will be retained by the federation and displayed in a book at various other events. 5th October 2018 Page 2 of 4 Ver. 1

Guidelines 1. Entries are to be made through the L&CPUs portal https://lcpu-portal.org via your Club Secretary. 2. Each Club Secretary has been provided with a Club Code and Password. If you are unsure what to do will you please let us know by emailing: secretary@lcpu.org.uk or competitions@lcpu.org.uk 2. General Except for any final printing, images entered must be entirely the work of the stated author. The stated author must have taken the original images submitted and have the full copyright of all elements of the image at their disposal. Composite images are welcome in all categories provided all components meet this requirement. Images constructed from so-called royalty free and copyright free images to which nobody owns the copyright are not acceptable. Nature images entered into the sections will be judged as pictorial and nature rules will not apply. Nature images must be accurately titled. All techniques employed in the making of an image must have been carried out by the stated author. Print entries need to be delivered to the venue on the day of the competition. All entries must be submitted through the club competition secretary. Print labels generated by the portal should be affixed to your print entries. These contain a barcode, which is used in the administration of the competition. A copy of your entry form should be handed in on the day of the competition. The Club is responsible for ensuring that your entry is correct, and the rules are complied with. It is the winning clubs' responsibility to ensure the return of trophies in good time for the following year s competition. 3. Prints All prints should be A4 and un-mounted. Each print must display on the back, the identifying label generated by the portal, and placed as near as possible to the top right hand corner of the print. Definitions Novice A novice is an author without any form of distinction. i.e PAGB, RPS, FIAP and PSA distinctions. Open Monochrome This definition has been taken from the FlAP definition for Monochrome and is used by the PAGB and the L&CPU Pictures entered must be monochromatic images (which may be singly toned in a single tone colour). Monochrome prints, which have one or more added colours/dyes, must be entered in the Open Colour section. Open Colour Colour includes all other images not classified as Monochrome. 5th October 2018 Page 4 of 4 Ver. 1
