nvws.org December 2013 December s Meeting Wednesday, December 11th @ 7:00 pm Mesquite Club 702 E. St. Louis Ave. Las Vegas, NV 89104 Board Meeting Wed, December 11th @ 5:30pm December s Program **Holiday Party** and Potluck Bring your favorite dish to share and enjoy with friends Painting Exchange Bring an original, matted 5 x 7 (or larger) gift wrapped painting to participate in the gift exchange 50/50 Raffle!!! There must be a time warp taking place somewhere we cannot be nearing the Holiday Season!! It can t be the first part of December!! Where did the time go? With the realization that Christmas is just around the corner, I m hoping that you are wrapping-up a matted, small painting and will join us at the next meeting where we will enjoy a pot-luck and painting exchange a time to be merry and full of joy. This was a busy year, but as we look forward to 2014 there are fears and concerns that involve the membership and their willingness to support the NVWS Board and Committees. Without membership involvement the Society cannot provide programs, workshops, meetings, exhibitions or other community events. A couple of months ago, I mentioned that we needed several Committee and Chair positions filled. Unfortunately, there was no response. Jo Firm is relocating to Montana, after many years of serving as Communications Chair. This is a vital position that needs filling. Mary Vovsi has resigned her position as Publicity Chair. Another position to be filled. The position of Parliamentarian has been open all of this year. In February, the Society will need a nominating committee of three and given the charge of presenting a slate of nominees by April for the 2014-2015 Board Officers. Saying that, I would like to hold a Town Hall Meeting/brain-storming session at January s meeting. We need to hear from you!!! With that, I hope that you can put on your thinking cap and reflect on it. Hopefully, you will have some solutions It takes a village, with all participating making it a viable organization. The Board and I wish you and yours a happy Holiday Season and hope that you are painting with wild abandon! December 2013 Nevada Watercolor Society page 1

Blick will be having its first ever Holiday Craft Fair on Dec. 15 from 11-4pm and we are in need of artists that would like to sell some of their work! If you are interested or have any questions please feel free to contact me at 702 368 0209 or at 2210@dickblick.com!! ---- Cass Hagan 2013 NVWS Member Show NOW through January 14th, 2014 West Sahara Library 9600 West Sahara Ave Las Vegas, NV 89117 A little more information about Sterling Edwards workshop...this will be a watercolor workshop for all skill levels. There will be a wide variety of watercolor techniques that will be discussed and demonstrated including positive and negative painting, composition, using creative colors, glazing, charging color, and many more. We will begin each day with a demonstration painting that will be finished before lunch. The daily demonstration will be different each day so that you will see a wide variety of subject matter and styles including landscapes, floral, stylized, and abstract. My preferred method of painting is to use large brushes for most of the painting and complete the painting will a small amount of detail towards the end using smaller brushes. The end result is a watercolor painting that is loose and fresh with expressive brushwork. Following lunch each student will have the afternoon to work on their own painting with assistance when needed. There are no requirements as to what the student paints or what size they prefer to paint.
