Yardages and Cutting WOF is width of fabric from selvage edge to selvage edge. 1 Morningmoon Unicorn Panel Fussy-cut (8) 9 1/2" x 11" frames. 1 yard Morningmoon Flowers Fussy-cut (8) 9 1/2" x 11" rectangles, centering flowers as desired. 1/2 yards Lavender Tonal 1 strips 11" x WOF; cut into (16) 1" x 11" strips and (16) 1" x 10 1/2" strips. Label each stack. 1 yard Sapphire Tonal 1 strips 11" x WOF; cut into (16) 1" x 11" strips and (16) 1" x 10 1/2" strips. Label each stack. 6 strips 2 1/2" x WOF for outer border. 1 yard Amethyst Tonal 3 strips 3 1/4" x WOF; cut into (34) 3 1/4" squares, then cut twice diagonally to make 136 triangles. 6 strips 2 1/4" x WOF for binding. 1 1/2 yard light blue sky print 2 strips 3 1/4" x WOF; cut into (17) 3 1/4" squares, then cut twice diagonally to make 68 triangles. 7 strips 2 1/2" x WOF; cut into (20) 2 1/2" squares, (8) 6 1/2" x 2 1/2" rectangles; (8) 8" x 2 1/2" rectangles; (4) 8 1/2" x 2 1/2" rectangles; and (4) 10 x 2 1/2" rectangles. Label each size. 4 strips 4 1/2" x WOF; cut into (4) 21 1/2" x 4 1/2" and (4) 18 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles. 4 yards of 42" backing fabric 2 strips 72" x WOF OR OR 4 1/2 yards of 42" directional backing fabric 2 strips 78" x WOF for directional fabric OR 2 yards wide backing fabric 1 piece 72" x 78" Batting 1 piece 72" x 78" 1/2 yards Dark Sky Tonal 2 strips 3 1/4" x WOF; cut into (17) 3 1/4" squares, then cut twice diagonally to make 68 triangles. 1 strip 2 1/2" x WOF; cut into (17) 2 1/2 squares. Piecing the Blocks & Sashing Strips Use a 1/4" seam allowance for all stitching. Press all seams as directed. 1. Sew a 1" x 11" sapphire tonal strip to the right and left edges of a unicorn panel rectangle. Press seams toward the strips. Stitch 1" x 10 1/2" sapphire tonal strip to the top and bottom to complete a 10 1/2" x 12" Framed unicorn block. Press seams toward the strips. Repeat to make 8 blocks.
Framed Unicorn Block Make 8 2. Sew a 1" x 11" lavender tonal strip to the right and left edges of a Flowers rectangle. Press seams toward the strips. Stitch 1" x 10 1/2" lavender tonal strip to the top and bottom to complete a 10 1/2" x 12" Framed flowers block. Press seams toward the strips. Repeat to make 8 blocks. Framed Flowers Block Make 8 3. Stitch a light blue tonal triangle to an amethyst triangle. Press seam toward the amethyst triangle. Repeat to make 68 triangle units. Triangle Unit Make 68 Stitch a dark sky tonal triangle to an amethyst triangle. Press seam toward the amethyst triangle. Repeat to make 68 triangle units. Triangle Unit Make 68 4. Join 2 triangle units to make a 2 1/2" x 2 1/2 hourglass unit, using one light blue/amethyst and one dark sky/amethyst unit per square. Press seam to 1 side. Repeat to make 68 hourglass squares. If necessary, trim the square to be 2 1/2". Hourglass square Make 68 5. Sew an hourglass unit to each end of the 2 1/2" x 8" light blue rectangles to make (8) 2 1/2" x 12" long sashing strips, ensuring the light blue triangles are toward the sashing strip. Press seams toward the rectangles. Double Hourglass Long Sashing Strip Make 8 6. Stitch an hourglass unit to each end of the 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" light blue rectangles to make (8) 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" short sashing strips, ensuring the light blue triangles are toward the sashing strip. Press seams toward the rectangles. Double Hourglass Short Sashing Strip Make 8 7. Sew an hourglass unit to one end of the 2 1/2" x 8 1/2" light blue rectangles to make (4) 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" long sashing strips, ensuring the light blue triangle is toward the sashing strip. Press seams toward the rectangle.
Single Hourglass Short Sashing Strip Make 4 8. Stitch an hourglass unit to one end of the 2 1/2" x 10" light blue rectangles to make (4) 2 1/2" x 12" short sashing strips, ensuring the light blue triangle is toward the sashing strip. Press seams toward the rectangle. Single Hourglass Long Sashing Strip Make 4 Completing the Quilt Refer to the Exploded Quilt Diagram as needed throughout the following steps. 1. Sew 3 double hourglass long sashing strips alternately together with 4 Framed blocks (2 unicorn/2flower) to make a 12" x 46 1/2" block row. Press seams toward the blocks. Repeat to make 2 block rows. These are the center two framed rows of the quilt. 2. Sew 1 double hourglass long sashing strip and 2 single hourglass sashing strips alternately together with 4 Framed blocks (2 unicorn/2flower) to make a 12 x 46 ½ block row. Press seams toward the blocks. Repeat to make 2 block rows. These are the top and bottom framed rows of the quilt. 3. Stitch (3) 2 ½ dark sky blue squares alternately together with 2 single hourglass short sashing strips and 2 double hourglass short sashing strips to make a 2 ½ x 46 ½ sashing row. Press seams toward the squares. Repeat to make one upper and one lower sashing rows. 4. Stitch (3) 2 ½ dark sky blue squares alternately together with 4 double hourglass short sashing strips to make a 2 ½ x 46 ½ middle sashing row. Press seams toward the squares. 5. Join the sashing rows and block rows to complete the 52 ½ x 46 ½ quilt center, beginning and ending with a block row. Press seams toward the block rows. BORDER STARS: 6. Sew (1) 2 ½ light blue tonal square to each amethyst side of (1) hourglass unit Repeat for a total of 8 square-hourglass-square strips. Square-Hourglass-Square Strip Make 8 7. Sew the dark sky blue side of (2) hourglass units to the opposite sides of (1) 2 1/2 dark sky blue square. Repeat for a total of 8 hourglass-square-hourglass strips. Hourglass-Square-Hourglass Strip Make 8 8. Sew (1) square-hourglass-square strip to (1) hourglass-square-hourglass, ensuring the dark sky triangles are towards the dark sky blue square. Repeat for a total of 8 star units. Star Unit Make 8
9. Sew (3) star units alternately between (2) 18 1/2 x 4 1/2 light blue tonal strips to make a Top/Bottom Star Border. Repeat to make (2) Top/Bottom Star Borders. Top/Bottom Star Border Make 2 10. Sew (1) 2 1/2 light blue tonal square to the left amethyst side of an hourglass unit, with the light blue tonal triangle towards the top to make a Left Side Border Cap. Repeat to make (2) Left Side Border Caps. Then repeat with the light blue tonal square on the right amythyst side of an hourglass unit to make (2) Right Side Border Caps. Left and Right Side Border Caps Make 2 of Each 11. Join (1) Left Side Border Cap, (1) Right Side Border Cap, one Star Unit, and (2) 21 1/2 x 4 1/2 rectangles to make a Side Star Border. Repeat to make (2) Side Star Borders. Press seams toward the blocks. Side Star Border Make 2 12. Sew the Side Star Borders to the left and right sides of the quilt center. Then stitch the Top/Bottom Star Borders to the top and bottom of the quilt center. 13. Sew the 2 1/2" x WOF sapphire tonal strips short ends together to make a long strip. Press seams to one side. Cut into (2) 56 1/2" strips and (2) 60 1/2" strips. Stitch the 60 1/2" strips to the sides of the quilt center; then stitch the 56 1/2" strips to the top and bottom of the quilt center to complete the top. Press seams toward the border strips. 14. If using 42" backing fabric, remove the selvage edges from the backing pieces. Carefully join the pieces on the long edges with a 1/2" seam allowance. Press seam open. Trim the edges to make a 72" x 78" backing piece. 15. Layer the top with the backing and batting pieces. Quilt as desired. Trim batting and backing even with the top. 16. Join the amythest binding strips on the short ends with diagonal seams to make a long strip. Press seams in one direction. Press the strip in half along the length with wrong sides together. 17. Bind the quilt edges using your favorite method to complete the quilt.
