Pilot High Performance Production through 3D Printing Coen de Graaf - Chemnitz, 26-10-2017

What is it? The Vanguard Initiative for New Growth by Smart Specialisation. WHAT A partnership of European regions that want to be frontrunners in the application of smart specialisation as a strategic principle in European innovation and industrial policy to promote new growth through a bottom-up dynamics in the regions. WHY need to deliver on jobs and growth and foster global competitiveness by investments in strategic priority domains for Europe s industrial future (with a focus on new pilot activities). WHO regions with strong industrial ambitions and smart specialisation strategies for their structural renewal. HOW by sharing information to initiate bottom-up vanguard initiatives, developing common roadmaps and multi-level approaches to stimulate investment and enabling local clusters with global potential to develop into world-class clusters

Topics Why? Vanguard Initiative & 3D Printing pilot Who is participating? How does it work? Additive / substractive high precision and high finishing production Next steps

Why? Additive Manufacturing (AM): a key to EU industrial modernization A fragmented and unbalanced landscape Capabilities are here! But the European area is scattered The need for cross-regional collaboration Cross-regional demonstration is the primary target Spill-overs extend to R&D, Training and business-oriented services, etc.

What? A connected network of Technology Centres in Europe helping SMEs to innovate through Key Enabling Technologies SMEs can find the right contact person for getting technology services and expertise anywhere in Europe Technology centres can promote their expertise and service offer and explore opportunities to collaborate with other technology centres.

How?

Questions to be asked I want to optimize the use of materials to produce parts and/or products I want to produce lighter components I want to do some research on the role 3D-Printing could have in my production chain I want to produce complex shapes (parts or products) I want to reduce lead times on an existing component or product I want to integrate components that are now too numerous and costly to assemble I want to save on costly material Other

Sectors / Application Area s Aerospace Automotive Healthcare Transports Machinery and tooling Electronic and electrical devices Cultural and creative industries, including lifestyle Textiles Construction Other

Materials Titanium 6-4, 6-2-4-2, Ti6AI4V, Titanium Ti6AI4V ELI, Titanium Grade 2 and related alloys Stainless steel 316L, 316I, GP1, PH1 Cobalt-chrome ASTM F75, MP1 and related alloys Polyamides (PA) Polystyrenes (PS) Thermoplastic and/or thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) Thermoset polymers Cobalt Satellite 21 Polyaryletherketones (PAEK/PEEK HP3) ABS-M30i Ceramics Other

Your challenge / needs Prototype that needs to be scaled up Patent and technology IPR searches (pre-existing rights, technology monitoring, etc.) I need support for design and modelling I need support in the software area Chemical testing Mechanical testing Kinematic testing Visual testing Corrosion testing Fatigue testing Durability Testing Other form of testing Support to validation and certification but also to (re-) design Technology costs comparisons, etc. Environmental impact and life cycle assessments I need a legal or economic/market study I need a technical study (feasibility study, state of the art, etc.) Other

Size Large-size production Components bigger than 150cm x 150cm Small production batches Other Example / Conclusion: If you wish to "optimize the use of materials to produce parts and/or products" in the Healthcare Medical tools and devices area, when considering Cobalt-chrome ASTM F75, MP1 and related alloys for Prototype that needs to be scaled up + Kinematic testing and involving Small production batches, we can redirect you to: Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli (IOR)(Italy)

Organisation ASBL Shared Funding Model Pilots Action Plans Democases Activities

Vanguard: 3D Printing pilot VI Demo-Cases common objectives establish / connect shared facilities for demonstration of new technologies facilitate access to shared facilities lower technology uncertainty, risks and costs stimulate industrial replication & upscale (hence market uptake) Each DemoCase = combination of complementary demonstration facilities group(s) of companies accessing infrastructure (TRL6-8) industrial replication & upscale (if the above is successful) (TRL8-9) 3 types of DemoCases connecting existing infrastructures building brand new demonstration infrastructure connect & upgrade existing infrastructure (hybrid format)

Pilot & democases: Promoting cross-regional access to shared facilities for 3D-Printing: High performance production through 3D Printing 3D-Printed Hybrid Components (metal-cfrp) Additive/ Substractive platform 3D-Printed automotive components (monomaterial) for large (>2500 mm), medium and small complex parts Machinery, Tooling and Complex Shapes Healthcare case 3DP in Textile Contact: Luca Tomanesi (UNIBO), luca.tomesani @unibo.it Contact: Bianca Collisimo & Coen de Graaf (cdgraaf@braba nt.nl) Contact: Berta Gonzalvo (AITIIP Technological Centre), berta.gonzalvo@aitiip. com Contact: Jacky Lecomte (SIRRIS), Jacky.Lecomte@ sirris.be Contact: Alberto leardini (DPhil Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli, Bologna) leardini@ior.it Michele Malvestiti (Unindust riacomo), m.malves titi@unin dustriaco mo.it

VI Methodology for interregional cooperation U P S C A L E LEARN CONNECT DEMONSTRATE - Scoping paper (common vision) Identifying lead regions - Mapping questionnaire (potential/gaps) Identifying lead-actors - Matching events for complementary partners - Project development for new value chain - Networked demonstration (JDI) - Pilot lines and first of a kind factories TRL 6 7 8 COMMERCIALISE - Launch of new ventures / start - ups - New value chains TRL 9

Different Investment Needs Demonstration / upscaling through: Creating / building new facilities Connecting existing facilities Category 1 Demo-Cases «Connecting what already exists» Ca. 50% of VI demo-cases Category 3 Demo-Cases «Connecting & upgrading what already exists» 30% to 40% of VI democases Cat 2 Demo-Cases 10% to 20% of VI demo-cases «Building & connecting new demo facilities» Investment size 0,5-10 Mio +/- 10-50 Mio +/- 50-200 Mio (poss. even higher )

General Financial Structure three layers Basic infrastructures - Costs related to the setting up of the infrastructures and platform (largely or partly sunk costs) Regional, national and EU Subsidies Projects-related activities (within the platform; TRL 5-7/8) - Operating costs Public and private investments Return on investments based on industrial upscale Replication Indus. Upscale (TRL8/9) 1 Replication Indus. Upscale (TRL 8/9) 2 Replication Indus. Upscale (TRL 8/9) 3 Replication Indus. Upscale (TRL 8/9) 4 Etc. Private investments and EIB loans Revenues generated from Replication/Industrial upscale and production

General Financial Structure three layers Layer 1 Public Support Basic Demonstration Infrastructures Initial Costs related to the setting up of the infrastructures and platform (100% coverage non-profitable top through public funds, Regional, national and EU Subsidies structural) Layer 2 Projects-related activities (within the platform; TRL 5-7/8) - Operating costs (e.g. 50% subs, project based) Public Subsidies and private co-investments Layer 3 Replication Indus. Upscale (TRL8/9) 1 Replication Indus. Upscale (TRL 8/9) 2 Replication Indus. Upscale (TRL 8/9) 3 Replication Indus. Upscale (TRL 8/9) 4 Etc. ROI based on industrial upscale (Repayable Loans, Bankable Business Pl) Private investments, public (EIB-like) loans Revenues generated from Replication/Industrial upscale and production Notes: Layer 1 (to some extent Layer 2 as well) contains «non-profitable top» (hence the subsidies) Layers 2 & 3 can t be functioning if «top» not financially secured ( no bankable plan!) Layers inter-dependent; smooth flow between them key!

Results & Perspectives What s in it for my company? Network: new partners & potential lead-users, within & outside the own value chain Critical mass (joint-upscaling), lowering risks & uncertainty... Common solutions (IPR, Certification, new funding instruments) Support for access to funding, i.e. : H2020 funding (2-3 calls/y) (e.g. Innosup) EIB/EIF funding Combined regional funding, including structural funds Private co-investment
