t Sample Calendar May 1-11, 2019 Nature Craft: Enjoy these fun nature-themed activities geared toward adults and older children. This month we offer Beachstone Jewelry. Hunter Boot Tide Pool Walk: Join Capt. Mark on an adventure to shallow watery places. Depending on tide stage we will explore rocky Atlantic shoreline tide pools, or the grassy salt marshes that ring the salt pond. We will look at the seaweeds and the creatures that live in these sheltered areas. A perfect application for the Hunter Boots available from our lending closet! Birding: We visit local hotspots to seek out our fine feathered friends. Outing will utilize one of the Inn vans, our open-air, or perhaps a boat. Naturalist Mark will bring along optics and local knowledge. Solar Sunday: View the sun through our beautiful scope outfitted with a high-end solar filter. This is a safe way to see sunspots on the surface of the sun. Naturalist s Van Outing to Kettle Pond Visitor Center: KPVC is located in a lovely modern building in the woods of Charlestown, which is also the regional headquarters for US Fish & Wildlife. The visitor center features beautiful dioramas and displays that represent various habitats found in the five Rhode Island refuges. Trustom Pond Outing: Trustom Pond US Fish and Wildlife refuge features well-maintained trails that meander through native grasslands, upland forest and eventually to a large coastal pond. Viewing platforms afford fine views of waterfowl and sweeping vistas of the beach and marshes. Free for Inn guests; $20 for those not staying at the Inn Naturalist s : Join our naturalist on an hour-long walk down the barrier beach. He will point out wildlife, interesting plants and landmarks. The beach is beautiful and great for walking throughout the year. Guides: The following guides are available at the front desk: Local jogging and biking maps. Points of interest map covering Mystic, CT to Newport, RI. Walker s guide to scenic downtown Westerly. Moon map for self-guided moon viewing. ipads with stargazing app. Printed directions to area attractions are also available at the front desk. Charts and Grog with the Captain Join Capt. Mark in the Sea Room for a ration of Grog (the Inn s own delicious recipe) and a look at nautical charts of the area. This is a fine way to understand the nature of our coastline and to learn a bit about tides, reefs and shipwrecks. Walk to Weekapaug Overlook: A quick walk to the overlook at Weekapaug Point, where we use our spotting scope to survey Block Island, Montauk Point, Watch Hill and Fisher s Island. Meet in lobby. S mores at the Fire pit: A crackling fire in the back-yard fire pit and big sky and water views. What could be better than that? Toasting marshmallows and making s mores! Weather dependent. Our computerized telescope reveals wonders of deep space. Electric Tour: Join us for an insider s tour of Weekapaug in our new open-air electric. Bucolic lanes and lawns, beautiful homes, hidden beaches and big views. Cocktail Mixology Demo: Join our beverage team for a fun (and tasty) demonstration on how to mix one of our signature cocktails. Pasta Night: Enjoy a three course shared family style menu, featuring our fresh handmade pastas, raviolis, and risotto. Menu will change each week and guests will begin with a salad and bread course to share around the table. $30 - $40 per adult; Children 9 12 are 50% off; Children 8 and under eat free off kid s menu. The ride is slow, tranquil and whisper quiet. (Tickets are provided to overnight guests at check-in. They can also be purchased at front desk for $20 each.) Naturalist s Motorboat Tour: Join Capt. Mark for a one-hour exploration of the salt pond in our shallow-draft motorboat. It is an exciting way to explore the lagoon and is great at getting into the best areas to view wildlife. Trips limited to six. (Tickets may be purchased at front desk for $20 each.) Inn Tour: Join our Naturalist for a walk around the building. Learn about the original Inn, the Great Hurricane of 38, our current building and recent renovations. Inn Lobby.
