Achieving Your Goals with a Vision Board (and What s On Mine!) I can t honestly believe we are in November already. Where on earth has this year gone to. I hate saying stuff like that because I feel so old saying stuff like that but honestly I remember sitting with my assistant about this time last year planning this year ahead and talking about all the things you wanted to do all the things onto the tick off what you wanted to launch. And you know what. I can t honestly believe we re here in November and I probably haven t ticked off some of those things that I wanted to tick off. Don t get me wrong I ve ticked off things I didn t even know we were going to be doing and some really cool stuff. But I think if you re like me you kind of have this plan about what you want to achieve in the certain length of time. I guess it s just surprising how fast the time goes. What about you. Have you achieved what you wanted to this year. Can you believe it s November. What have you got planned for the next couple of months now. Today s podcast is gonna be a little bit different because there s been a few different things going on. I kind of want to talk about them all and it s not necessarily going to be going through so many tips or strategies or the kind of more structured form I go through but I feel that what I want to talk about is quite important for when you run your business or if you re managing a business and you re trying to keep progressing and moving forward. So the first thing I wanted to talk about was obviously the fact that I ve just been in Laguna Beach in the States for just short of two weeks in total I think and I ve not long got back and you know what. It was awesome. Now obviously I went to Laguna Beach it s not going to be horrible is it but I actually went out for a conference and I think that when you re at a conference you kind of could be anywhere in the world if I m honest. Anyway 1

I was lucky enough to be in Laguna Beach an attending business by design live which is James Wedmore s course event. So basically back in June I signed up to business by design which is of course by James Wedmore. This is probably the most expensive course I ve paid for and the reason I picked this course is because often when I look at courses that are out there I always do courses that are around latest technology new platforms latest changes in platforms so that I keep myself up to date with the constantly changing social media world. However when it comes to marketing and kind of courses my business I do struggling a little bit because often I know a lot of what they re teaching because obviously that s what I do for a job. However the reason I pick James is course was there was a whole section of James s course that was about you as the business owner and looking at you as a person and how you keep yourself motivated and how you drive yourself forward. And for me and I think I ve talked about this before on the podcast. But that was the one area I totally underestimated. I totally didn t think about how a I d need to motivate myself manage myself or C keep myself in the right mindset because you know what. Sometimes you don t want to do it anymore. I m serious. Sometimes you wake up and think What on earth am I doing. Be there meet someone that does what you do and they re ahead of you or you will of trying to achieve something and you re struggling to do it. And it can completely destroy your mindset. It can completely unmotivate you kind of sabotage what you re doing and suddenly you can find yourself kind of in this spiral of what what am I doing. The business isn t going how I want it to or whatever it might be. So one of the things I particularly liked about James is course was the fact that there was a huge section of it not only focused on you as a person and some of the tools and techniques that he uses to a look after himself in his business but also to drive his business forward. And then there was a whole section on actually taking you out as the worker in the business. So for instance let s say you re a graphic designer you re obviously going to be really good at the graphic design side of it. And so you set up a business and 2

you think right I m going to set up my own agency but of course what you perhaps don t get in the first instance is you are the business you are doing that every day and you get to a point where you might be a business owner but effectively you re still selling your time for money and you can t run the business if you re not in it. So he a whole section on how do I almost make my business run without me sat here physically. What things can I bring in who can do what he s a big advocate of bringing on people to do the things that you just don t have to do. So anyway I ve kind of rambled on about that for a bit but that was why I chose to do this cause and alongside with the cause was a live event now for me that was one of the biggest selling points because to get in front of these people to mix with people who are on the same space and the same type of not necessarily business because they don t do what I do. But in the same mindset is brilliant because I can t remember who said the quote but it s something like you know either you ve got to surround yourself with the people you want to be or you are made up of the people you surround yourself with. So for me it was super important to get out there get mixing with those people hear some amazing case studies about the achievements that people had done within a fairly short space of time and again James has this great quote that we seriously overestimate what we can achieve in a day but drastically underestimate what we can achieve in a year. So I am taking all the stuff that I kind of learn out there all the connections that I made and I am powering through to the end of the year and I m going to make these last few months count because you know what sometimes I think we get to this point in the year and we start to kind of slow down which is crazy because there s two whole months left. But actually I think I m going to use the excuse that I m a parent and therefore December is a fairly big deal in my house. And obviously we ve got children finishing school we ve got all the stuff that goes on a Christmas pantomimes and nativities. We ve obviously trying to sort out child care and also we have a birthday. Well actually I have my step daughter s birthday on the 20th November. My daughter s birth 3

on the 24th of November and my husband s birthday on the 3rd of December. So this is a really busy time for us and I think sometimes you find that businesses that you deal with they start to naturally slow down because they think well I will wait till January we ll do it in January but actually there s two whole months and I want you to be with me on this. I want you to be listening to this and saying yes Teresa we re going to make these last two months count and we re going to power through and do something before the end of the year so that we can take something off our list or launch something or develop something or basically achieve one of those big goals that you d put in for yourself. [00:08:02] So let me just backtrack a little as to why I started talking about the fact that I was at the live event and my I was even there in the first place and this is kind of the theme I wanted to talk about today which is my vision board. Now I think I ve mentioned my vision board before and it was something that I was fairly new to I would say actually that this part of the business world I was very new to and I ve only really been doing it for the past I don t know maybe one to two years where I ve considered more about mindset and focus and goals and dreams and my vision ahead. [00:08:44] But about, I think it probably was a good sort of 12 months ago I created a vision board I was talking to a client at the time and she told me about her vision board and showed me and I was quite inspired by this. So I decided to create a vision board and that s one of the reasons why I m doing the course with James and my I wants to go to Laguna to meet him because actually one section of my vision board is. [00:09:12] I m looking up at it as I m recording this. Is right by me at my desk people I want in my network. So basically people that I want to kind of be connected with and be friends with them and have business relationships with because I kind of really am 4

because I m totally inspired by them and I feel like they would be great people to have around you. And on that list or on the vision board there s actual pictures is James Wedmore now at the time it feels a little bit odd and I m sure you re listening to this thinking through his you are a bit odd and there s no doubt about that but at the time I kind of thought this is a little bit strange and putting pictures up of these people on the board but actually I really did genuinely want to get to know them and were really inspired by their businesses. So if at any point I could have bought them into my world or got into theirs then I was going to do that hence why when the opportunity arose for me to join business by design not only did I think it was a fantastic coourse and I wanted to buy it anyway. But I knew the opportunity would come up for me to bring myself into James s network so that James and starts know who I was. Now I just want to talk you through my vision board because like I said this was something that I hadn t done before. I didn t really get it but since I ve done it I can promise you I can now tick things off this board which I guess I didn t even think about previously I didn t even put in my mindset that I wanted them. So to actually get them down put them on a vision board and then get to a point where you re like Oh my word. I can actually tick that thing off. I ve done that thing so I ve decided to go with a few different areas. And after a few materialistic things I ve done a few things that are business goals and a few personal goals and I don t mind talk me through what these are. So I ve already mentioned the one to you and that s where I want to connect with certain people. So in that group I ve got James Wedmore Amy porterfield Pat Flynn Rick Mulready and Jasmine star and as you ll know from the podcast I ve already had a few of them on three of them on and I ve met with them and I m starting to connect with them so that s really cool that I can almost start to take those things off. Then I ve got a couple of more materialistic stuff if you like. So on my vision board I actually have to buy a Range Rover now and I m sure I ve mentioned this before I used to work for Land Rover. I was a corporate marketing at their head office and I love them. They have an amazing 5

product. It s a beautiful car so obviously I kind of knew that would be on my vision board. However when I was lucky enough to go to San Diego back in June and I met Pat Flynn he took me in his Tesla and I have to say I loved it so I might have to tweak and change that up and maybe put a picture of a Tesla on. Then I ve got a house that I would like and it s not a particular house. It s a type of house and it s a certain type of money. So I ve gone online and found pictures of the type of house that I would like. Now I have to say I ve made this really visual I have put figures on it. I ve printed off pictures of the types of house the gardens with the car. I actually went on and spec the car out. I then looked at how much it would cost every month or how much the car would cost in total so i m trying to be as specific as possible. Again I ve printed off pictures of different angles of the car. Then my next one is places that I m going to speak out or speaking goals. Now I ve been very clear and I keep putting it out to the universe. I m praying the universe is listening but I d like to speak at social media marketing world. It s our biggest event in the world for social media s. And although I think there are some other amazing events out there that I want to speaker at in my industry this would be obviously a really big one. The other events I ve got on there are things like traffic and conversion and inbound and content marketing world and of course one of the things I had on there was a TEDx talk which I am over the moon to say that I can now take off because I ve done one and on a side note it s now live on YouTube which was very exciting when I got back and people have been able to go on on and watch it and it s great. I m able to share it if you haven t seen it head over to youtube and search my name. Teresa Heath-Wareing and put Ted x and you ll find me and I d love to hear what you think that because I loved doing it. So yeah that s great. I ve got the speaking gigs on there than the other goals I ve got oh the other materialistic one is first class travel. I know obviously in the UK I can normally do a first class train because they re not that much more expensive if you plan ahead but planes are entirely different matter. Obviously they re not cheap to fly business or first 6

class. I ve done business a couple of times and I loved it and I m gonna be so honest now and say the reason I love it is because I m not the smallest person in the world and it s uncomfortable being in their seats it s really uncomfortable. I obviously do long flights because we re going out to the States quite a lot. So we re talking like 10 /11 hour flights and being cramped and a seat with a seat laid down in front of you is really I find really hard. This is like hashtag first world problems but I just do find it really uncomfortable and I don t necessarily settle very well on a plane. So for me when I have done business and I have that space oh man it s like heaven is so much nicer experience if you ve ever been lucky enough to do it then you ll know what I mean it is amazing so that s my vision board that I want to be in a position one day wherever I have to travel I can do it first class or business class. Then I ve got a couple of business goals on there. So I have a turnover goal that I d like for the business and what I ve done with this is I ve literally printed off a picture of like a pile of money I ve put how much I want my turnover to be and it was really it was a big jump. Now I m not saying I m necessarily going to hit it but I think sometimes if you say to yourself Okay I want to do I don t know let s say you want to make 100,000 and you think I ll but I m probably not gonna make 100,000 so let s just say 80,000. Well you re only if you re putting in your mind to hit 80,000. Whereas if you put in your mind to hit 100,000 or 150,000 then you know what you might do 90,000 which is better than 80,000 that you originally thought. So for me I kind of go for the goals that are super big. And I think James has talked with this before about the fact that it s almost ridiculous and he has this amazing saying of f the how for now i.e. forget how you re gonna do it Don t think about it just literally say you know what I m going to do it. So that s what I ve got there. I also have a kind of piece of paper that I write on. On the vision board that has each month on and every month I go and look at what we ve invoice that month and I put it on the vision board. So again i m keeping a track of it. The other thing that I ve got on there is how many downloads I want. So I would like to get 20,000 7

podcast downloads by the end of the year. Obviously you guys could really help me with that by sharing the podcast by recommending it to people by keep listening. And I m I m I m a little bit off. I have to say I m almost like five thousand downloads which is cool but obviously again dream big. When I first started this I started the podcast I think in March and my first month or something like 24 downloads so I put a big goal on there and again every single month I write down how many downloads I ve haven t. How many total downloads I ve had and I see it increasing. And that s the kind of good stuff. So all of that is great. And you know what I look at all that and think yeah you know I m going to work really hard and trying to achieve all of it and it keeps me focused it keeps it moving forward. And then of is there s some personal stuff on there and this is a bit embarrassing have to say but I do have a goal on that in order to lose some weight. I know I need to and I do want to but I m one of these people that I get so focused on a particular part of my life i.e. the business and I kind of don t do a very good job of looking after myself which is a constant battle I am struggling with and I m constantly trying to make sure that I spend more time on keeping me healthy while because if I m not healthy and wild then obviously the business isn t healthy and well so. So that is also on there as well. But you know in all honesty I look at those other things about podcast and turnover and speaking and and they all seem super achievable and you know it s the weight but that doesn t seem so achievable. But I need to get out my own head I need to just think. And then also attached to my vision board I have affirmations I have some kind of quotes things I really like and keep me motivated. But like that I ve put all that together in order to keep me focused may some of them have deadlines on them like the turnover the podcast downloads that sort of thing. But some of them are just out there for me to look at. Every time I come into my office that when I m often sat here at my desk thinking or spinning around on my chair cause I m thinking that I see. I just look at it and it s just constantly keeping it in mind for me. And like I said this whole kind of reason I m talking about this is because of the fact 8

that I kind of felt that I was on the way to ticking off something else on the vision board because of the fact that I did the event with James and then could definitely tick off the tax talk because that came live. So I love having a vision board and if it s not something that you ve done before or you ve thought by then I would really encourage you and urge you to go for it make those things as wild as possible like dream bigger than you ve ever dreamed before. Think about the most amazing impossible actions events tasks whatever it might be and think Wouldn t it be amazing and just dream. Get it on that. Make it as realistic as possible. Print off the pictures and I literally went round and searched pictures of first class seats on planes and you know I love my children of his come into the office and my daughter comes in and she s only eight and she sits on my knee and we re looking at the vision board and she ll say to me which one s your favorite mummy which one do you want to sit in. And we talk about how amazing it will be when I can fly her and I or first class somewhere and I just I love that. I love having that conversation with her. So like I said make it big. Make it wild and get it on there make as realistic as possible. Also with the first class travel I ve been and got prices for flights so I know how much these flights cost. So again I m making it super clear my mind and then I just put it out there and hopefully in the future be able to tick off more of these amazing things. But have you got a vision board. Are you planning ahead. Are you thinking right. What am I going to achieve by the end of the year. Because like I said for me I feel like sometimes we get to November December and we start to wind down and I m not. In fact I m kind of winding up so I went out to the conference and I had had a course that I have created an online course that is to do with creating content for social media. It s one of the biggest questions I get asked all the time. People really struggle with how do I come up with ideas. How do I know what to post. How do I create amazing pictures. How do I then save time because I spend too much time doing this through something like scheduling. So I put together this course and you know I ve done just sat on it literally done nothing with the 9

whole course is created. It sat there on a really lovely looking platform website looks great. I ve recorded all the videos I ve done all the downloads and get some great downloads in there. [00:21:47] Got some planning sheets got some ideas got some worksheet I ve got like a list of all the international days to help me kind of plan forward and honestly it s a really cool course and I ve done nothing with it because you know what I was scared I was totally terrified to launch the product in case no one bought it and I went out to the event and James said on day two who wants to give me a takeaway from day one. [00:22:18] I haven t put my hand up I hadn t really spoke and I thought oh well he s only asking real simple question is not to stop critiquing my business. So because he does these hot seats where he kind of deep dives into your business and I thought I m not doing one of him because I m too scared. But anyway I put my hand up and I will say yeah this was my takeaway and then that ll be it. Anyway thanks. And then I m done. Didn t quite go like that. He asked me what my takeaway was. And I told him that even though I d got a vision for my business going forward even though I knew what I wanted my business to look like because we d done a lot of work on this and I d become very clear on this I wasn t being the entrepreneur that my business needed me to be. So even though I thought this is what I wanna achieve this is what I want. This is how I want the business to look. I then look to how I was behaving because his whole premise is you behave like that my because if you stay what you re currently doing you re obviously only going to get what you ve got. So I realized at that point I wasn t actually behaving hey my future business needed me to behave. So I gave this take away thing and that ll be fine. Great thanks. And he basically started to ask me questions and he was sort of saying so what would the business look like. And I mentioned that while I would have launched my course 10

and he s like what causes this. So I started to talk him through the course and he s like and you ve got this ready. And I said Yep. And he s like why haven t you launched it. And we went into the whole thing of you know what I m. And it took it quite a conversation to get out because I m not just freely going to go I m terrified it took a little while to kind of get to it and I got to the crux of it that I was scared. [00:24:00] I was scared of launching it in case no one bought it. And I was scared of failing because I don t like failing. I m a perfectionist. I like things to be perfect. And he rightly said to me Well the fact that you haven t even launched it you ve failed already because of the fact that how can anybody ever buy it if you don t actually put it out there. So I fully took on board he said and I started a waiting list for the course. [00:24:31] Now it s not going to be hugely expensive. It s going to be I don t know. At the moment I m still trying to work out this price but it s not going to be hundreds and hundreds at all. It s especially if you get on the waitlist it s going to be under 100 dollars easily. So I ve put together this wait list immediately from the event and I ve promoted a little bit and I m going to be promoting it more and then I m going to launch. And you know what I have given myself 30 days in which to launch buy. So I want you to keep an eye out for it. I want you to hold me accountable and tell me Teresa where is this thing. You said you were going to launch it because we all need a bit of accountability every now and then and that s going to be mine. And I ve met some other amazing people who we re going to hold me accountable that we re on the event as well. So that s coming of whites. Keep an eye out for that but really I know I ve kind of felt like I ve really ramble today so I apologize but I think for me I wanted this kind of podcast episode to be about not just thinking right becoming the end of the year let s chill out but really let s think about our goals. Think about what you want achieve and let s kill it for these last two months of the 11

year. Let s make a real difference. And that s what I m going to be trying to do. And also I wanted to talk about my vision board and I wanted to share that with you because if you don t have one I want you to have one. I want you to make one. I want to have great fun which I did doing all the research printing out the pictures putting all together the specs of the prices and the whatever and dream big. Make it massive and imagine what your life could be like because you know what if by dreaming and sticking a picture up on my wall means I get halfway there then that is perfectly great. I am not going to be sorry about that. So I will try and think because in my mind it can only help can t it. So anyway I hope you ve enjoyed today s podcast likes that little bit odd but I had some exciting things I wanted to to see and hear. One is obviously the TEDx talk is live so please head over to youtube and search my name and Ted x and you ll find it obviously if you want to share that would be amazing. And the other one is that you can get on my waitlist now for my course people on the wait list are going to get a price that no one else will get it. So definitely worth just putting yourself in that wait list. You re obviously not committing. You re just opening yourself up so that when it does come out I can give you the price. So anyway thank you so much for listening to today s podcast. I would love to hear your thoughts. I would love to hear whether you ve got a vision board. So please come and find me on social and connect with me. And next week we have a really cool interview. I interviewed Tyler McCall and actually what was cool about it was he was a business by design student and what he did do with his business in one year was phenomenal. He works on Instagram. He teaches people how to use Instagram and he s given me some great advice and great tips and a couple of things. Actually I didn t know which was always amazing when I learned new stuff. So that s next week. It s going to be a great one but until then have an amazing week and I will see them. 12
