Welcome to NGI Business, Career & Funding Opportunities while developing a humancentric internet The growing importance of the Internet implies that it is no longer just an IT network of networks: it is rapidly shaping the economy and our daily lives. This raises fundamental questions. Is the current internet responding to the needs of citizens? What kind of Internet do we want in ten-twenty years from now? What is the role of civil society? What ground-breaking research do we need? Can we leave the innovation in the hands of a few or should there be a bottom-up democratic participation to shape the internet? Roberto Viola, Director-General for Communications Networks, Content & Technology, NGI has a 2025 horizon it will generate business opportunities and define new career opportunities in a large, multidisciplinary domain

What are the needs & challenges? Human-centric: open, neutral, co-operative Transparent and trusted: Data Economy: Free-flow of data & General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Cyber secure: protecting citizens on line. EU Values and NGI The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) embodies values for personal identity. These EU values are global values & are becoming increasingly important. EU has a great opportunity to become global in this space. Privacy-by-design solutions are gaining moment, also in several national cyber security strategies. EU R&I (e.g. cloud computing) has paved the way for best practices that can become mainstream Technology as an enabler of global human values driven by the EU

Why did we choose Milan & Italy We feel that the pulsing Milan ICT fabric is underrepresented in NGI A number of Italian-based initiatives and organisations that already deserved exposure The opportunity provided also by the Cascading Grant scheme (especially for SMEs & start-ups) Milan & Italy in general can benefit from the NGI specific challenges, owing to the strong presence of SMEs and growing number of start-ups

Our goal is to Have a productive day Bring to the surface some key priorities for building blocks of the NGI flagships Take advantage of our European Champion Panel present today in our audience and as speakers Early results survey where we put ourselves in the shoes of the younger generation but also for others to answer for them but adding age discrepancy This event is live-streamed & will also be partitioned in video pills that will be publicised by the NGI communication channels Strive to build the links between People, Data, Services, Training
