Law school is for people who are boring, and ugly, and serious. And you, button, are none of those things. The Week of August 15, 2005 Online: www.scu.edu/law/resources/grapevine.html The Grapevine is published weekly by the Student Bar Association for the Santa Clara School of Law students, faculty, administration, and community. The Grapevine strives to be an accessible resource for SBA information, campus activity, and student life. Please send event information, article submissions and advertisements to: scugrapevine@gmail.com. Submissions may be altered or edited to fit layout space constraints. Copyright 2005-2006 SCU SBA Page 2 From the President Roy Stanley, 3L Welcome Back! First, the SBA would like to thank all the orientation student volunteers who made this year's orientation a success. Check out the pictures on page 3. Summer Update: Over the summer the SBA underwent a significant change. Previous SBA Secretary Gina Gancheva has taken a leave of absence and was replaced by not one, but two wonderful representatives: Jennifer Prieb and Sandra Rocca. We owe them huge thank you for all of the work they performed in organizing and publishing the 2005 Orientation Digest and this week s Grapevine, with only three weeks notice. There are leftover copies of the Orientation Digest in the Bannan lounge. Also, over the summer, the SBA sent a delegation to the ABA Conference in Chicago, Illinois. There will be a full ABA report in next week s Grapevine. In the coming weeks, be on the lookout for announcements regarding the upcoming SBA elections, which offers opportunities for you to run for election as SBA class representatives. On Wednesday, August 24, the SBA is sponsoring Club Day on the Alameda Mall. Club Day is our opportunity to showcase campus organizations and clubs. Remember, only clubs and student organizations that are registered through Dean Yaffe s office can have a table at Club Day, so make sure you are registered. I recommend that first year students also try to stop by and visit the various student organization meetings that will be taking place during this week and next week in Bannan over the noon hour. On another note, the SBA is looking for students to serve on the Law Career Services Student Council. If you are interested, contact me at rstanley@scu.edu. The time commitment is not substantial and you will have the opportunity to provide valuable insight and opinion on the services that LCS offers. Last year this council was significant in helping LCS to shape its programming and services to better serve SCU students. Remember, the Beginning of the Year party is coming this Thursday, August 18. It will be held at VooDoo Lounge in downtown San Jose. For more information, see the flyer on page 5. This is a private party for SCU students only, so you better be there. See you in the hallways. - Roy R. Stanley SBA President
