Burgundy two 9 x 9 squares AND two 3 x 26 strips. Interfacing two 9 x 9 squares AND two 3 x 26 strips. OESD Fuse & Fleece two 9 x 9 squares. Fuse the 9 square of interfacing to the wrong sides of the linen squares. Fuse the 3 x 26 strips of interfacing to the wrong sides of the strips of burgundy fabric. 2011 BERNINA of America, Inc. Page 1 of 5

Fuse the OESD Appliqué Fuse & Fleece to the wrong side of the 5 x 5 squares of pink fabric. Cut the Appliqué Shapes At your embroidery machine, open Special Occasions design #HG752_48CWA01. Hoop a piece of OESD HeavyWeight Tear-Away Stabilizer. Insert the Embroidery needle, attach Embroidery Foot #26, and thread the needle and bobbin for embroidery. Attach the hoop to the machine: stitch color 1, the placement stitches. Place one of the pink appliqué fabrics right side up over the stitched outline. Stitch color 2, the basting stitches. On the embroidery screen, color 3 will say Cut 1. Remove the needle, thread, and regular stitch plate from the machine. Install the CutWork throat plate and the CutWork Tool (with the metal frame facing you). Note: Depending on your machine, you may need to turn the thread sensor off when using the Cut- Work Tool. Turn the wheel on the CutWork Tool to position 1; press the start button. Continue, turning the wheel when prompted by the machine. Remove the hoop from the machine and pop the appliqué shape from the stabilizer; set aside. Repeat to complete the remaining two shapes. Embroider the Bag Front Set your embroidery machine for embroidery. Print placement templates using BERNINA Embroidery Software 6 or Artlink 6. Tip: If you don t have embroidery software, download the free Artlink 6 program at www.berninausa.com > Products > Software. Arrange the templates for designs HG752 and HG755 on one of the linen squares (the bag front) and mark the center of each design. Spray the wrong side of the square with 505 Temporary Spray Adhesive. Place the bag front on a piece of OESD Ultra Clean & Tear Stabilizer. Hoop the layered piece, centering the marked lines. Baste the fabric to the stabilizer. Note: If you need a basting box, download a free file at www.berninausa.com > See It! Share It! > Free Downloads > Other Cool Stuff. Tip: Using the Master Hooper helps hold the outer hoop in place, making it easier to hoop the fabric. Load design #HG752 into the embroidery machine. Stitch color #1 and color #2. Stitch color #3, which is the placement line for the appliqué pieces. Remove the protective paper and place the appliqué pieces inside the stitched lines. down the appliqué pieces. Remove the hoop from the machine. Remove the basting threads and excess stabilizer. Repeat the above steps for design #HG755. Embroider the Bag Back Embroider design #HG753 on the bag back, following the same process as for the bag front. Remove the hoop from the machine. Remove the basting threads and the excess stabilizer. Place the bag front and one of the lining squares right sides together. Using Patchwork Foot with Guide #57/57D, stitch the sides and the top edge. Turn right side out and press. Place the bag back and the remaining lining square right sides together. Stitch the sides and top edge. Turn right side out and press. Place the two 3 x 26 strips right sides together. Stitch both long edges and one short end. Turn right side out and press. Fuse a strip of Steama-Seam 2 on the open end of the long fabric strip. Turn the raw edges to the inside ¼ and press them together. Fold the strip lengthwise to find the center; mark with a pin. Mark the center of the lower edge of the bag front with a pin. Place the right sides together, matching the pins. Using Patchwork Foot with Guide #57, stitch across the unfinished lower edge of the bag, starting and stopping ¼ from both ends. Press the seam allowances toward the lining side of the bag; press. Repeat for the bag back. Press the seam allowances toward the back of the bag and press. Topstitch them in place using Edgestitch Foot #10/10C/10D. Pin the sides to the front and back, with the finished edges together. Stitch the sides together using Patchwork Foot with Guide #57/57D. Make the Straps Select the triple zigzag stitch (default length and width of 5.5mm) and attach Embroidery Foot #20/20C/20D to the machine. Line up the webbing with the inside edge of the foot. Stitch along both sides of the webbing. 2011 BERNINA of America, Inc. Page 3 of 5

Select the knit overlock stitch (default settings). Align the inside edge of the left toe with the center of the strap and stitch the entire length of the strap. Turn the strap around and align the left toe of the foot with the center of the strap; stitch the length of the strap. Fold the webbing in half lengthwise; cut into two pieces for the straps. Place each end of one webbing piece 1 from the sides and ¼ from the upper edge of the bag front; stitch in place. Bring the strap up over the raw edges on the ends and stitch in place. Repeat for the bag back using the remaining strip of webbing. Using the EZ Glitzer Pro, add EZ Glitz Crystals randomly around the front and back of the bag. Bag for Mom ½ yard navy fabric for lining and sides Bulky Overlock Foot #12/12C Embroider the Bag Front & Back Use the same procedure as for the Love Bag, but using designs #HG757 and #HG 758. Construction is the same as for the Love Bag except for the steps described below. When stitching the bag pieces to the lining pieces, leave them open at the upper instead of the lower edges. Turn the bag right side out; press. Edgestitch the top edge of both pieces. Visit www.berninausa.com Projects Webinars Promotions Cut two 2½ x 9 pieces of navy fabric for the top trim. Fold each piece in half lengthwise and stitch across the short ends. 2011 BERNINA of America, Inc. Page 4 of 5

Turn right side out and press. Pin one piece to the top edge of the bag front, on the lining side. Stitch in place. Fold over to the front of the bag; press. Using Bulky Overlock Foot #12/12C, topstitch the trim in place at the top of the bag. Pin the sides to the bag to the sides/strap and stitch in place. Repeat for the other side of the bag. Gather the strap top strap and stitch to finish. Happy Birthday Bag Repeat for the bag back. Make the Straps Cut two 3 x 42 strips of lining fabric. Cut two 3 x 42 strips of fusible interfacing. Press them to the wrong side of the sides/strap fabric. Using Patchwork Foot #57/57D, stitch the long edges of the strips together, stopping ¼ from the ends. Press a piece of Steam-a-Seam 2 on the raw edges of both ends of the tube. On one end, turn the raw edges to the inside ¼. Insert the other end of the tube/strap ¼, being careful not to twist the strap. Press in place and secure by stitching across the strap. Complete the Bag Find the center of the bag front lower edge. Align the bag center front with the side seam, aligning the edges. Stitch across lower edge, starting and stopping ¼ from each end. Tip: Use the ¼ marks on the edge of Patchwork Foot #57/57D for accurate stitch placement. Repeat for the bag back. ½ yard lime fabric for lining and sides Bulky Overlock Foot #12/12C Button Sew-On Foot #18 Embroider the Bag Front & Back Use the same procedure as for the Mom Bag, but using designs #HG748 and #HG 749. Construction is the same as for the Mom Bag except for the steps described below. Wrap the trim over the top seam rather than the seam line; this makes a narrower band. Cut two 2½ x 12 strap strips. Fuse interfacing to the wrong sides. Fold lengthwise stitch, turn, and press. Stitch to bag following Love Bag instructions. Stitch buttons to the bag front and back using Button Sew-On Foot #18. 2011 BERNINA of America, Inc. Page 5 of 5
