SKILL LEVEL Intermediate+ SIZES S (M, L, 1X/2X) Finished Bust About 42 (46, 50, 54) in. (106.5 (117, 127, 137) cm) Finished Length About 27 (27, 28, 28) in. (68.5 (68.5, 71, 71) cm) Note: Pattern is written for smallest size with changes for larger sizes in parentheses. When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. To follow pattern more easily, circle all numbers pertaining to your size before beginning. MATERIALS (Art. #761) 108 Denim 6 (7, 7, 8) balls Lion Brand stitch markers Lion Brand large-eyed blunt needle ADDITIONAL MATERIALS Circular knitting needle size 9 (5.5 mm), 29 in. (73.5 cm) long GAUGE 16 sts + 22 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). 18 sts + 22 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm) in Vertical Drop-Stitch pattern (blocked). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. STITCH EXPLANATIONS M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting the horizontal strand lying between needles and placing it onto the left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop 1 st increased. ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them together 1 st decreased. yo (yarn over) An increase that also creates a small hole in the fabric, worked as follows: 1. Bring yarn to front, between the needles. 2. Take yarn to back, over the right needle. This creates the new st. You are now ready to proceed with the next st as instructed. PATTERN STITCH Vertical Drop-Stitch Pattern (worked over a multiple of 9 sts + 4 additional sts) Note: To work the Vertical Drop-Stitch pattern you will need to first work a set-up row. Instructions for the specific set-up row are included under the heading for each piece of the pullover. Row 1 (WS): P1, *k2, p2, k2, p3; rep from * to last 3 sts, k2, p1. Row 2: K1, *p2, k3, p2, k2; rep from * to last 3 sts, p2, k1. Rows 3 and 4: Rep Rows 1 and 2.

Row 5: Rep Row 1. Row 6: K1, *p2, k1, drop next st off needle and unravel it down to the yo 6 rows below; k1, p2, k1, yo, k1; rep from * to last 3 sts, p2, k1. Row 7: P1, *k2, p3, k2, p2; rep from * to last 3 sts, k2, p1. Row 8: K1, *p2, k2, p2, k3; rep from * to last 3 sts, p2, k1. Rows 9 and 10: Rep Rows 7 and 8. Row 11: Rep Row 9. Row 12: K1, *p2, k1, yo, k1, p2, k1, drop next st off needle and unravel to the yo six rows below, k1; rep from * to last 3 sts, p2, k1. Rep Rows 1-12 for Vertical Drop-Stitch pattern. NOTES 1. Pullover is made from 4 pieces: Back, Front, and 2 Sleeves 2. Each piece is worked back and forth in rows of Vertical Drop-Stitch pattern from lower edge upwards. 3. A circular needle is used to accommodate the number of sts. Work back and forth on the circular needle as if working on straight needles. 4. When you see work even in the instructions, this means to continue on in the pattern st you have established without changing the st count by increasing, decreasing, or binding off. 5. When you see 'work in pattern as established' in the instructions, this means to work the next row of the pattern, lining up sts as in previous rows. 6. For those who find a visual helpful, we've included a chart of the Vertical Drop-Stitch pattern. 7. The Vertical Drop-Stitch pattern benefits greatly from blocking! You ll find blocking instructions at the end of this pattern. BACK Cast on 84 (92, 100, 108) sts. Set-Up Row (RS): K1, *p2, k1, yo, k1, p2, k2; rep from * to last 3 sts, p2, k1 you will have 94 (103, 112, 121) sts in this row. Beg with Row 1 of pattern, work in Vertical Drop-Stitch pattern until piece measures about 19 in. (48.5 cm) from beg, end with a WS row as the last row you work. Shape Armholes Rows 1 and 2: Bind off 9 sts, work in pattern as established to end of row 76 (85, 94, 103) sts in Row 2. Work even in pattern as established until armholes measure about 8 (8, 9, 9) in. (20.5 (20.5, 23, 23) cm), end with a Row 5 or Row 11 of pattern. Next Row (RS): Work next row of pattern (a Row 6 or Row 12, omitting the yarn overs 68 (76, 84, 92) sts. Bind off.

Work even in pattern as established until armholes measure about 6 (6, 7, 7) in. (15 (15, 18, 18) cm), end with a Row 5 or Row 11 of pattern. Place a marker on each side of center 40 (39, 40, 39) sts. Next Row (RS): Work next row of pattern, slipping the markers as you come to the and omitting the yarn overs between markers and slipping the markers as you come them you will have 36 (35, 36, 35) sts between the markers when this row is complete. Shape Neck Row 1 (WS): Work in pattern as established to first marker for right side, remove marker, join a 2nd ball of yarn and bind off all sts to next marker and remove marker, work in pattern as established to end of row for left side. Note: One side of the neck may have 1 more stitch than the other side. Do not worry, this is just part of the nature of the Vertical Drop-Stitch pattern. You will now work both sides of neck AT THE SAME TIME with separate balls of yarn. Row 2 (RS): On left side, work in pattern as established to last 2 sts, k2tog; on right side, ssk, work in pattern as established to end. Row 3: On right side, work in pattern as established; on left side, work in pattern as established. Rows 4-9: Rep Rows 2 and 3 for 3 more times. Work even in pattern as established on both sides, using separate balls of yarn, until Front measures same as Back, end with a Row 5 or Row 11 of pattern. Next Row: Work next row of pattern over both sides, with separate balls of yarn and omitting the yarn overs. Bind off both sides using separate balls of yarn. Rows 1-5: Beg with Row 1 of pattern, work in Vertical Drop-Stitch pattern for 5 rows.

Note: In this next section, you will be shaping the Sleeve with increases. On each increase row, you will M1 after the first st of the row and before the last st of the row. On the row following an increase row, work the sts into the Vertical Drop-Stitch pattern as established. Work even in Vertical Drop-Stitch pattern as established until piece measures about 16 in. (40.5 cm) from beg, end with a Row 1 or Row 7 of pattern. Shape Sleeve Cap (top of Sleeve) Rows 1-4: Bind off 9 sts dropping sts that are directly above a yarn over as you bind off, work in pattern as established to end of row 37 (37, 46, 46) sts in Row 4. Last Row: Work in pattern as established, omitting the yarn overs. Bind off. FINISHING Sew shoulder seams. Sew Sleeves into armholes. Sew Sleeve seams. Sew side seams, leaving about 5 in. (12.5 cm) unsewn at lower edge for side slits. Weave in ends. Blocking Smooth Back, Front and Sleeves onto a blocking board or other flat, padded surface and pin into shape. You can choose to wet block or steam block. To wet block, spray pieces lightly with water, then allow to air dry. To steam block, hold your iron at least 1 in. (2.5 cm) above pieces. Move iron slowly over pieces to allow steam to penetrate. Allow pieces to air dry completely before unpinning. ABBREVIATIONS
