the root of all enjoyment: Briar. Alexander Eckert Managing Director & Partner Discover a material which inspires masterpieces. We would like to devote the enclosed brochure to the material without which the following pages would be pretty empty. We are, of course, talking about that wonderful material, briarwood; durable, lightweight and at the same time it lends itself unlike any other natural material to the production of first class pipes. Its decorative grain is at least as much an enjoyment as the moment in which you enjoy the unequalled flavour of your favourite tobacco. But of course we again want to dedicate these pages to our core business: first class and expertly crafted pipes.

raw material Time for more The stuff dream pipes are made of. Which fine wood a genuine VAUEN is carved from is immediately recognisable. Ultimately briarwood is not just any old wood. This wood is taken from the root of the French briar, which grows in the sun spoilt Mediterranean but cannot be cultivated. To produce a pipe, a 20-30 year old root tuber is needed. However, because of our quality criteria, only 10% of the excavated tubers become so-called scantlings for the production of our pipe bowls. The cut of these scantlings is at least as much a great art as the crafting of the pipe itself already in this process the ground stone for the beautiful grain is laid. Thus VAUEN quality control begins long before the piece reaches our production facility. This is not surprising because if our raw materials were not first class, all of our experiences and our dedication would be in vain. Which, in a nutshell, means: excellent briarwood carefully selected, specially processed and, above all, crafted with a lot of dedication. worth knowing. Everything starts with the dugout root. Cleaning the root. Professional cutting of the scantlings. Followed by cooking to prevent crack formation. The scantlings are ready for further processing.
