Additional Photos [3] [4] [5] [6] The original build for this was done a couple of years ago as a Christmas gift for Mom. This plan incorporates my lessons learned from the original build, like using 1x3 instead of 1x2 for the doors, and having the inside door bottoms shallower, to allow more space on the inside for necklaces to hang and not get caught on the door. I tried out the deeper doors on Mom s necklace armoire, and they worked great. Also, shoulder hooks worked a lot better than the fancy hooks, for hanging necklaces. This plan also saves a bit of $ by calling for nails (or use ¾ brass shoulder hooks) instead of fancy hooks, and is sized to skip the sticky-back felt on the drawer bottoms. If you wax your drawer bottoms and shelves, they ll slide fine. Priced with regular whitewood boards and wood knobs, you could do this build for about $50 in lumber Page 3 of 10
and hardware (it does call for hardwood plywood for the drawer bottoms and door outsides it sands and finishes a whole lot nicer than regular and makes the drawers slide better). The felt for the insides would be optional. This would also be a great use for some scrap 1x2, 1x3 and 1x8. The diagram drawings in the plan are not to exact scale (still haven't mastered Sketchup - - they re just lines and shapes from Powerpoint) but everything is marked with the sizes, to show what goes where. Always use straight boards. Check for square after each step. Always predrill holes before attaching with screws. Use glue with finish nails for a stronger hold. When wood filler is completely dry, sand the project in the direction of the wood grain with 120 grit sandpaper. Vacuum sanded project to remove sanding residue. Remove all sanding residue on work surfaces as well. Wipe project clean with damp cloth. It is always recommended to apply a test coat on a hidden area or scrap piece to ensure color evenness and adhesion. Use primer or wood conditioner as needed.
