OFFICE OF THE SUPERINTENDENT DISTRICT ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES Michael Nitti, Superintendent Ext. 1102 2099 Pennington Road, Ewing NJ 08618 mnitti@ewingboe.org Phone 609-538-9800 Fax 609-538-0041 www.ewing.k12.nj.us Immediate Release BOE Board Briefs: January 9 th, 2017 Organization Meeting The Ewing Township Board of Education met on January 9th in the Fisher Middle School Media Center to conduct the annual BOE organization meeting. School Business Administrator/Board Secretary Dennis Nettleton opened the meeting by acknowledging that January is Board of Education Recognition month in New Jersey. In 2002, the State of New Jersey, along with the State Board of Education, the public body which regulates public education, designated the month of January as the time to honor the work done by local school board members. New Jersey s local boards of education play an essential role in our students lives. These volunteer public servants take time away from their family and friends to oversee 581 school districts which, in turn, operate 2,500 public schools and provide educational services to nearly 1.4 million children. They set the policies for our schools and make important decisions affecting curriculum, financing and staffing. This month is a time to raise public awareness of the roles and responsibilities of local boards of education. Mr. Nettleton thanked all Ewing Township Board members, present and past, for their efforts on behalf of the school community. Mr. Nettleton then read into the record the official results of the November BOE election, and conducted the oath of office for returning Board members Stephanie Staub and Bruce White, as well as new member Ken Bradley, who is returning to the Board after a one year absence, having previously served for twelve years. Kenneth J. Bradley was first elected to The Ewing Township School Board in 2003 and served 4 terms from 2003-2015. He was elected as Vice President in 2007-2008, and was elected as President in 2008-2009. He is married with two children and has lived in Ewing since 1993. Mr. Bradley received his Bachelor s Degree in Sociology and History from Rutgers University. In 2011 he retired from the New Jersey Department of Corrections after 27 years as a Senior Corrections Officer. He is a former member of the following: Ewing Community Relations Committee, Parkway Elementary School PTA Executive Board, Antheil Elementary School PTO, Coach and Executive Member of Ewing Little League, Coach of Ewing Recreational Basketball League, Assistant Den Leader of Boy Scouts of America, Black Belt of Japan Karate Association, Hamilton NJ and Southern Shaolin Karate Academy, Ewing, NJ. He is a member of the following: Kingdom Church, Ewing NJ and King David Lodge #15 F&AM, PHA, Trenton, NJ, Past Master.

Pictured above are Mr. Bradley with School Business Adminstrator/Board Secretary, Mr. Dennis Nettleton and Mr. Bradley with his family. Bruce J. White is in his 34 th year of service on the Ewing Township Board of Education. He has previously served as President, Vice President and Chair of many committees during his tenure on the board. A lifelong resident of Ewing Township, Mr. White is a graduate of Ewing High School. He is an active 36-year member of the Ewing Kiwanis Club. He is chairperson for the Ewing Kiwanis Scholarship Foundation that annually awards scholarships to Ewing Township graduating high school students. Additionally, Mr. White is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Ewing Township Patriotic Committee, and is an officer in the Village on the Green Civic Association. Mr. White retired in August 2001 after 37 years as an educator. He was a teacher, guidance counselor and, for 22 years, a high school principal. He is the father of two adult daughters, who are graduates of the Ewing Schools. Pictured below is Mr. White and School Business Adminstrator/Board Secretary, Mr. Dennis Nettleton.

The Board then conducted its election for President, which resulted in the nomination and unanimous selection of Stephanie Staub, who will begin her second consecutive year as President. The Board then unanimously elected Karen McKeon as Vice President, who also served in that position in 2016. Mrs. Staub received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Trenton State College and is employed as Director of Marketing for the Architectural Glass Institute. She served for three years on the Antheil PTO Executive Board holding the positions of Co-President and Co-Vice President. Since 2007, she has served on the Board of Directors of the ACE (Architecture Construction Engineering) Mentoring Program of New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania and was Chairwoman of New Jersey s Education Committee from 2009-2011. She is a member of the Delaware Valley Green Building Council.
