How to Build Your Email List To Attract Ideal Clients
Why build an email list? Building an email list may feel like a daunting task for you. It can bring up things like technophobia if you re a creative, or it can feel cold if you are soul-based. (And likely, you re both of those things!) It s Time For a Re- Frame Building an email list is all about RELATIONSHIPS An email list is about creating ongoing relationships with your potential clients, current clients, past clients (who may want to work with you again) AND people who are in alignment with you that you not only give to but also receive from, and people with whom you collaborate. Building an email list is all about growing your community. It s going to serve you sustainably for years to come. If social media is where we begin the relationship (which is often what happens now), then getting their email is a way to have more intimate conversations with people individually. Sales close through direct emails, not necessarily through social media. How to Build Your Email List To Attract Your Ideal Clients 2 of 10
It s Essential To Have a List You don t have to have a huge list to have a thriving business, but it s essential to have one. Communicating with the people on your list is how you move from getting clients by the seat of your pants to having a steady way of connecting with potential clients, and sharing your services and offerings to create more easeful cash flow. STEP 1 Create a Free Gift of High Value for Your Potential Clients A webinar A free pdf/e-book A series of videos, or audio Something that feels generous and serves them. It should solve a problem they have or speak to something they desire. If your clients wish to write a solo show, like some of my clients have, write about that. Think about your ideal client, who they are, what they need, what they want and how you can help them with that based on your direct experience/expertise. Write or record this document, using one of the services listed below. (Or find your own! Putting it Together If you are creating a written document/pdf/e-book, I recommend using Canva. If you are recording a video of just yourself talking you can use a camera you have at home, your phone, or your computer. If you want to record a slideshow for a webinar, you can use a Zoom paid account or download a screen capture tool. If you want to record an audio, use the recording device on your phone. Do a couple tests to see what the best distance is and then go for it! This isn t about perfection, especially when you re just getting started. It s about the information and the energy you bring to it. If I waited until everything was perfect to start my business, I would have never gotten any clients. Follow-up Emails Set up at least one email (or a series of emails) that get sent to the person automatically over a period of days, once they sign up for their gift. The key here is to treat it like a relationship. A first date, even! They aren t ready for you to sell yet. But you can tell them a powerful story about yourself and your journey, thank them for being there - and just generally be welcoming, personable and helpful. You might even give them another free gift. After a few emails, it s desirable to put out your offers. Let them know how you work with people. Maybe ask them a question...what kind of help are they looking for? Then, if they answer, you can offer them a free call. If they express any interest in working with you at all, you want to set up a free call with them. This is how you deepen the relationship. In the next free pdf, I go over how to have great, authentic sales calls with people that help you sell in a way that feels empowering to both you and your potential clients.
