WITH FOND MEMORIES Our Dear Friend, Past NVWS President and Program Chairperson, Roberto Rico passed away earlier this month. He will be missed by many... "Mary and I met Roberto Rico four or five years ago. He had a wonderful one man show at the West Sahara Library. I remember that I inquired at the time about the possibility of taking lessons from him. He gave me his card and as my life frequently does I became involved in others things. Of course today I reflect on my missed opportunity to study under a great artist. I wonder where his card and the time went. I next met Roberto at the Watercolor Society meeting when he became President. I had forgotten about our first meeting and just became a meeting goer. When I became president Roberto assured me that it was a piece of cake ; that the ladies would do all the work. That is true. He continued as our Vice President until he left us. I ll miss him as I sure many others will also. The consoling thing for me is knowing that at some future day we will meet again and just maybe he can teach me to paint beautiful skies. Until then Adios amigo!" Jim Champlin More photos of Roberto Rico This is from a Facebook post for Roberto: We would like to thank everyone for all the prayers for Roberto Rico. We have gotten so many Beautiful comments of their memories with him. It brings a smile to us to know how many people s lives he has impacted. The first service will be Saturday, February 3rd at La Paloma Funeral Services in Las Vegas 11am-3pm. Thank you for your continued support NVWS SHOWS AND EXHIBITS Now accepting entries for the 2018 Spring Show! Spring Show deadline extended to February 23. Photographs for the 2018 Spring Show will be taken before February's meeting begins, from 6:30 to 7:00 pm. An additional photo session is scheduled for February 21 at The Mesquite Club, 702 E. St Louis Ave, LV from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Show is from April 12 to June 10, 2018 Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 2018 Spring Show prospectus.pdf

ARTIST OF THE MONTH PROGRAM Our Artist of the Month program provides a great opportunity for the artists in our Society to show their work and for us all to get to know each other better. We suggest that people come by 6:30 to the clubhouse so that we have time to talk to the artist and really enjoy the show. The easel we have been using requires a set up and take down commitment, as well as storage retrieval and replacement each month. We are considering moving to small table easels and a few large easels for next year. We need a volunteer for this February s meeting to help Ed Hoag set up the easel. Jim Champlin will be out of town for the next meeting, and he usually helps Ed. If we can t find help, then we will set up a makeshift display. Do we have any volunteers to help Ed on February 14th? Being tall helps I can t reach the top part of the easel. Please contact Nancy Buford at 702-521-0173. If people have any unused table top or large easels they would like to donate for this purpose, please contact Nancy Buford at 702-521-0173. ARTIST OF THE MONTH OPENINGS Artist of the Month Openings for the 2018-2019 season If you would like to be Artist of the Month, please contact Nancy at 702-521-0173. On the easel or our intended alternative display, there is room for up to 16 paintings. They do not have to be framed, but they should be matted. We d love to see your work! And if you are a teacher, this is a great opportunity for your students to display their work and be introduced to our Society. ACCOLADES TO OUR MEMBERS Congratulations to Charmé Curtin for her article in the Winter 2018 edition of the Artisan Magazine.
