AGENDA - MONDAY 6 MARCH MARLBOROUGH ROOMS, SKYCITY CONVENTION CENTRE 1:30 Registrations - coffee and tea 2:00 Welcome from the Chair 2:05 Leaders panel: Planning for the future, today Network managers have the task of marrying traditional asset management practices with emerging technology applications that have the potential to change the way networks operate. Planning for new technology impacts - including solar, storage, electric vehicles - but remaining technology agnostic and flexible The transition to cost-reflective pricing - managing the process Regulatory frameworks - help or hindrance Opportunities for collaboration - with the other networks and the wider sector Rob Jamieson - Chief Executive, Orion Greg Skelton - Chief Executive, Wellington Electricity Matt Todd - Chief Executive, Eastland Group 2.45 Transformational network technology It is not every day a silver bullet technology comes around for underground cable and overhead line infrastructure owners. It took a whole industry to develop the DFA (Distribution Fault Anticipation) technology which is being rapidly adopted around the world. Keith will explain the concept, history, and where the technology is now being used, alongside case studies demonstrating the impacts on network expenditure and asset management plans. Keith Gilby - Senior Consultant, Lord Consulting

3:15 ENERGY: Transition, Innovation, Transformation Tony Dunstan - Chief Executive, Nexans Australia & New Zealand 3:30 Afternoon tea 4:00 System operations tomorrow Co-operation and collaboration is needed to evolve the system operation function in a rapidly changing electricity system. What will the requirements for interoperability look like going forwards with new and emerging technologies? This changing electricity system impacts on data access, managing load variability and delivering reliability, which in turn impacts system operation across the grid and the options available for making maximum use of the power system as a whole. John Clarke - GM System Operations, Transpower 4.30 Presentation: Asset management - the implementation of Industrial Internet of Things The world is currently experiencing the convergence in maturity of a number of key technologies which have been developing on exponential growth paths. The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are two such technologies which are rapidly becoming accessible for asset managers, but how do you implement these technologies, and what skills do you need in your organisation to maximise the benefits they unlock? This presentation discusses the issues caused by exponential change, and in particular examines some of the key technologies converging which are relevant to asset management in the power industry. The presentation also discusses some real world applications of IIoT in the power industry so far and the opportunities and challenges they have opened up. Peter Armstrong - General Manager, Mitton Electronet 5:00 Closing remarks from the Chair 5:05 Networking drinks and canapés 6:00 End
