Big Horn Galleries represents many well-known artists from Cody as well as other areas of the country and beyond. Coinciding with the popular Buffalo Bill Art Show and Sale in Cody, the gallery presents its annual Fall Classic group exhibition. Hanging September 24 through October 15, the show features artwork of gallery artists participating in the Buffalo Bill show plus a special showcase of work by Shawn Gould, Martha Pettigrew, Terry Isaac, and David Jonason. Big Horn Galleries has a long reputation for representing top artists, and I m happy to be included, and to have an opportunity to show my work in a locale where I ve had little previous exposure, says artist Martha Pettigrew. Formerly an illustrator, Pettigrew has established herself as one of the foremost Western contemporary sculptors. Her work has appeared in numerous prestigious shows winning top awards around the country and is held in both private and public collections. Known for her graceful bronze works of Native American women, she has also added bold paintings to her oeuvre, as seen with Barn Near Wood River and Red Barn, White Horse. Barn Near Wood River is a familiar scene for Pettigrew she drives by this barn often and admires its simplicity. Martha Pettigrew, Barn Near Wood River, oil on canvas, 60 x 60 monumental feeling, the water tank and green light fixture were added for compositional interest, says Pettigrew. But she will also have bronze works in the show, including Dakota Wind. Dakota Wind was commissioned by The Museum of The Great Plains in Lincoln, Nebraska, explains Pettigrew. This sculpture represents a woman of a Northern Plains tribe in the early 19 th century, her clothing showing no European influence. Her buffalo robe is adequate to cope with the severe winters of the Northern Plains. Canadian artist Terry Isaac is pleased and honored to have been added to the list of artists showing at Big Horn Galleries and is looking forward to attending his first Fall Classic. All of my paintings for the gallery will be painted in the true spirit of the West with many coming from inspiration gathered from the Wyoming landscape, says Isaac. Dusting Off features a bison from Yellowstone emerging from a cloud of dust as it settles around him, while Cloud Shadows was inspired by the pattern of shadows cast on the slopes of the Tetons. Freedom Run features horses enjoying a carefree group gallop and was my first horse painting, adds Isaac. The local land and wildlife near artist Shawn Gould s home in Northern California provides endless inspiration for his work. He will have several pieces in the show, including Marsh Wren, Meadow s Edge, Morning Stretch, and Ridgeline Bobcat, which is fresh off the easel. In Ridgeline Bobcat my focus was on the gaze of the bobcat as it pauses at the edge of the shadow to watch for any movement before continuing on its search for a meal, says Gould.
