Policy Report from Congressman Andrews Congressman Robert E. Andrews (D-1) covered a variety of topics in his remarks, including the toll the economy is taking on the demand for new households due to the inability of younger New Jerseyans to get their first job and make the transition out of their parent s house and into their own residence. Congressman Andrews chats with guests over breakfast. Sponsor Mike Coyle of PSE&G begins the program. The Congressman went on to tout the infusion of new capital into the region through such projects as: the Deep Water Port at Paulsboro; the progress being made at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City - which will open two months earlier than originally planned; the work and consolidation being done at the Lakehurst Naval Megabase; and the joining of Cooper Medical School and Rowan University producing ancillary growth potential around the institutions. He noted there is still work to be done, such as expanding the AC Airport with new carriers to enable the booking of additional conventions to attract new visitors and the need to confront the region s growing energy demand through the construction of a new nuclear generating facility in Salem. The Congressman stated this is the real work that needs to be done to end this economic winter that currently overshadows our economy. Washington needs to cooperate in a bipartisan fashion to do the people s work and he is confident that all sides can come together to get this country back on the right track. SNJDC would once again like to thank all the sponsors of the Andrews Public Policy Breakfast: Capehart & Scatchard, Coriell Institute, Dewberry, District Council 711, Greenman-Pedersen, JS Hovnanian, NRG Energy, Open Door Media, Paulsboro Refining Company and PSE&G. 7
