Each class should spend at least 15 minutes on phonics, Makaton or intensive interaction as appropriate for a lesson starter every lesson. Phonics teachers should use Read write Inc or Dockside as appropriate to their set and pupils. However, one in four lessons should be taught as a discrete phonics based lesson, focusing on identifying sounds (if able) or working on object/noun recognition and vocabulary extension. During phonic sessions teachers will use the Read Write Inc phonic scheme or Dockside according to the pupils needs. The items in red are just suggestions for books and teaching ideas on the English theme. Please use any other resources that cover the English theme and topic that are suitable for the pupils in your set.
