You could run out of food and die, you could get attacked by a bear and die, you could fall off a cliff and die - or you could stay home, fall off the couch and die - choose. Rodney Lough Jr.

Breaking News: Urgent Message from Rodney s Desk What a fine day it is over here at the Studio. I am working on some new images and thought to myself I can t wait for the two studio workshops I have coming up. This is something I have never offered before and will likely not offer again. I announced them just over a week ago and we are already almost completely sold out. We only have a couple spaces left in May and just as few left in June. I know that some of you were on the fence about this and hadn t made up your mind. I thought honestly that you would have more time to make this decision but, it looks like time is running out and spaces are dropping like flies. If I were you I would get on the phone and put in my reservation while I still had the chance. For the many of you that are signed up and coming I am beyond excited to be able to share this experience with you and to be able to help teach you, and learn from you as well. My collectors have been an inspiration to me throughout my artistic life and I am happy to be able to give back. Remember don t hesitate further, otherwise it might then be too late! See you in the Studio, 3

Join My Newest Workshop! I am holding a very special first time ever offered workshop for a small group of interested and excited photographers. Why you ask? Because I want to share my knowledge. Not knowledge from a book, or website, but knowledge accrued from my heart and my head during my years of professional experience, which is why I, Rodney Lough Jr., am inviting you into my home, and studio. Here is the general outline: Thursday: The excitement begins; you will board your plane, train, bus, or car to make the long overdue journey to Portland. Once arriving you will be invited along with the rest of the group to a meet and greet at my home. We will be indulging in some delicious cuisine made by my wife. While we are enjoying the endulgements of the evening we will discuss in further detail the plan for the weekend. This is where you are able to ask any questions, thoughts, or even perhaps ideas you wish to share. Friday: Perhaps before the sun even creeps over the horizon we will already be on our journey to capture the light it will bring. During this time in the wilderness we will spend it shooting and capturing the most elegant and enchanting of images. This will be a time for learning and growing as I show, and help you with all the questions you might have to capture this moment in time. Saturday: One of the most important days has crept upon us, the day you get to see where the magic happens, and of course make some magic yourself. We have set up shop at the studio where you will have your own workspace. Now is the time we begin to process the images from the previous day with the undivided assistance of myself. Some key topics that we will divulge the secrets of are; color correction, contrast, raw processing, highlights, and shadows. I will be here every step of the way for you to ask any questions from the smallest thought to the biggest hurdle. Sunday: Just when you thought the vast knowledge of learning was over we will cover one more daunting task that many have wondered the process of, and you will be privy to know. After we put the finishing touches on your masterpiece I will teach you and everyone how to create through a traditional wet chemical process fine art photograph to take with you when you leave. I will show you how to size your masterpiece correctly, sharpen it for printing, and teach you the importance of utilizing aspect ratio. After I have equipped you with your masterpiece we will be off to one last stop at my home for a decadent BBQ before I bid you adieu as you head home. 4

The Nitty-Gritty Details For the first time I am opening my studio to workshop attendees to come and learn from the master and where else, but my very own studio. How cool is that??!!!! We will start the day capturing your image and by Sunday, will have a final printed photograph that you will take home with you. The Undertaking The program cycle goes from capturing your own image, processing it with me by your side and finally on Sunday printing your photograph that you will take home with you, and share your masterpiece with your friends, and loved ones. You will see what software I use, and how I go from raw capture to the processed image. I will show you what I do to get from the raw image to what I saw in the field. I will be discussing important topics that have stayed secret to my process until now like raw processing, color management, and monitor calibrations. I will discuss dust issues and removal, masks and other secrets I use to complete my final image. Then, it s your turn. We will start by setting you up in an office space conducive to editing, then you will upload your images to the computer and I will show you the secrets to get back to what you saw in the field the day previous. The way we will do this is demonstrating my process and in turn teaching you and the group how to accomplish this yourself. There will be more then enough time for you to ask me any questions and I will deliver the best response I know how. It will be great fun to teach you and to be able to learn from one another as well. And finally on Sunday, the magic continues as I show you how I take that processed image and prepare it for printing. During this time we will all become quite well acquainted as I take you through the dark room to learn just how you can do what I do. We will take this time to turn your final image into your own printed masterpiece. This piece you will be able to take home and not only awe at the sight, but also remember that you now know the secrets of my process. See the process... See the studio... See the printer... Learn EVERYTHING... For the first time, learn everything from start to finish with me Rodney, in my studio. How cool is that??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5

The Nitty-Gritty Equipment Camera & Tripod I will be bringing my Arca Swiss RL3d Large Format Camera. You can come to this workshop with any camera you have, even a pink Barbie Doll camera will do, but I suggest you bring the best camera system, or systems, you have. No matter what you bring to shoot with, you will definitely need a tripod. Len(s) Be prepared to work in several different scales, from close up work using a macro lens, to a standard lens, to a wide angle lens. Looking at this list you might think that you need all of these, but you do not. Bring whatever you have. If you only have a normal lens for your camera then that s fine as well. The lens I primarily rely on is my standard lens. It is rare that I pull out the heavy hitter super wide, but here and there it will see some use. Be sure to bring along a cable release cord for your shutter or some way to remote trigger your shutter. Filters Be prepared to spend a little money on this, but it s well worth it in the long run. You will have more than one opportunity to use the filter that I am suggesting while on this workshop. You need a two stop graduated neutral density filter (used to compensate what the eye can distinguish but the film cannot) made by Tiffen. This filter is glass, don t waste your money on one of the acrylic filters, but be sure to get the Cokin P series size of the Tiffen 2 stop GRADUATED neutral density filter. Also obtain a Cokin P Series adapter holder and retaining ring(s) for the len(s) you will be using. The ring screws onto the lens and the adapter slips onto the ring, then the filter slides into the adapter allowing one to move the filter up/down and twist left/right. It is the most versatile system I have ever found. As well as the above filter you will need a 10 stop neutral density filter. 6

Don t Wait It Might Be Too Late! This workshop will be a once in lifetime opportunity to come into my home and studio to learn my methods in person, something that has never been offered before. I am not inclined to share my secrets with the whole world but I am inclined to share them with a select few. These workshops will fill up fast and that is a promise. You will not want to wait and be too late to learn the secrets of photography. I am so excited to be able to share this experience with you and the group, and be able to give some of my knowledge to future generations of photographers! * STUDIO WORKSHOP - $ 2,150 WORKSHOP 1: MAY 28 MAY 31, 2015 WORKSHOP 2: JUNE 4 JUNE 7, 2015 *You are responsible for airfare and lodging.
