Out Of The Blue A new live eight-part series celebrating the arts in Northern Ireland Out Of The Blue, Monday, October 17, BBC One NI, 7.30pm (left to right) Reporters & Presenters, Niamh Perry, Ralph McLean, Michael Bradley, Graham Little, Joanne Salley, Colin Bateman, Carrie Neely Presenters Joanne Salley and Graham Little team up for the new live eight-part series Out Of The Blue on BBC One Northern Ireland which will explore our rich arts and cultural scene in an innovative way. The series is based on the premise that a work of art can be anything enjoyed beyond work. It will uncover the stories of the people who are passionate about what they do - be it a pop song, a poem, painting or play. In the first programme Graham and Joanne reveal the Larne story of the woman given the title of the World s Worst Writer. Dermot Murnaghan dreams up his very own desert island art exhibition and Ralph McLean tells us about the hip hop dance show making its way to Northern Ireland. Classic Brit Awards winner Tasmin Little will be performing live in the studio. Out Of The Blue, starting on Monday, October 17 on BBC One NI at 7.30pm, not only looks at new creations, but also rediscovers work that s stood the test of time. The show uncovers why a performance from The Clash, a Jack Butler Yeats painting, a 50s trade union building or a horror book character continue to fascinate long after they were created. 3
Some say Jimmy Jimmy is actually a better song than Teenage Kicks while others think that s heresy. Everyone has an opinion - and Graham and Joanne are no different. While Joanne can paint, Graham can barely draw a stick man. Graham says: I m delighted to be moving in a new direction but it s not a massive leap from sport to the arts, both are passions of mine and both are about entertainment and escapism. Out Of The Blue isn t an arts programme as people know it, but about making the arts accessible for everyone, that s why I am really pleased about being involved. Joanne and I have different tastes, different ideas about what makes good art, but that only makes for good banter during the show. Joanne says: I can t wait to come home for this new series. As an art teacher I live and breathe the arts everyday but this is a great opportunity to learn about lots of other areas. What makes a good film, song, play or painting is different for each person so it is fantastic that we have such a broad range of reporters who are all experts in their own field who will help us explore a range of fascinating areas. Graham and Joanne will be joined by five reporters; BBC Radio Ulster presenter and music lover Ralph McLean; singer and performer Niamh Perry; novelist, screenwriter and playwright Colin Bateman; art consultant for the visual arts Carrie Neely and radio producer, presenter and Undertone, Michael Bradley. Each week they will present a selection of special reports on a wide range of subjects ranging from a possible Coleraine influence on Bram Stoker s Dracula to the story of the Belfast girl who lived the Ameri- Graham Little & Joanne Salley will present the new series Out Of The Blue can dream and became one of Hollyood s biggest silent movie stars. creating a work of art live in the studio should make for a really lively show.
