UNILINE system Technical Brochure V1.0 Line Array APG UNILINE system Presentation UNILINE is a high precision, medium/long throw line array system. The range comprises two models : - UL210 : a three-way bi-amped loudspeaker - UL115B : the dedicated UNILINE subwoofer. UNILINE has been developed as a highly modular system and can be used in 3 modes : the "standalone" mode using UL210 on its own, the "extended" mode using UL210 combined with UL115B or with a subwoofer and the "complete" mode using UL210 combined with UL115B and infra bass subwoofers From an acoustic point of view, APG s Isotop technology allows to reproduce the full mid-high range from 450H to 19kHz with an increasing vertical directivity index to reach 10 in the high frequencies. It produces exceptionally uniform and constant phase acoustic field. This results in flawless line source coupling, which in turn makes UNILINE perfectly adapted to everything from short to very long throw applications. The horn assembly employs an active annular horn with Isophase technology to achieve acoustic impedance adaptation and performance comparable to a traditional compression driver, but with greatly increased bandwidth and power handling. UNILINE also benefits from our intensive research on handling and transport features to significantly reduce rigging time and still provide maximum security. The Uniline Aiming Tool is a proprietary software tool designed to optimize configuration both mechanically and acoustically. Presets are available for the digital processors and a system installation protocol has been developed in order to achieve perfect results every time. Benefits - High level of sonic and acoustic performance - Real 85 constant directivity across all the mid-high frequency bands - Exceptional modularity : three different modes of use - Sophisticated rigging system with two rigging bumpers : o 3-point rigging for UL210 o 4-point rigging for UL115B (including cardioïd configuration) - Can be flown or ground-stacked - Handling : 10 integrated handles on UL210. - High security, fully integrated and very intuitive rigging system - Low weight - Two dedicated heavy duty transportation dollies for both UL210 and UL115B - Exceptional power/size ratio. - Real constant horizontal directivity of 85 in mid/hi.

1. UL210 speaker UL210 is the line array element of the UNILINE system UL210 has two sections of amplification : Low/mid (70 450 Hz) mid/hi (450 19 khz) The low/mid section comprises two 10 speakers (25cm) located on either side of the ported cabinet. The mid/hi section comprises a coaxial 17cm/HF1 speaker assembly loaded with the exclusive APG ISOTOP TM waveguide that produces a wavefront which combines extremely coherently between loudspeakers right up to the extreme highs. The advantages of this technology compared to a traditional compression driver are significantly improved frequency response, constant and improved SPL and greatly reduced distortion. All UNILINE loudspeakers work on compression which increases the overall performance and reliability. UNILINE s remarkable control from 350Hz on the horizontal directivity plane is thanks to the large frontal horn. On the vertical plane, the directivity is progressive and the acoustic opening depends on the configuration of the array. The 3-point rigging system enables the system to be either flown or ground-stacked. The pivot axis of the cabinets is situated on the same plane as the throat of the ISOTOP driver. Consequently, the distance between sources does not depend on the angulation of the cabinets. The angle is adjusted from ONE point at the back of the cabinet in 1 increments from 1 to 10 (10 positions). 2. UL115B speaker UL115B is the dedicated low frequency subwoofer of the UNILINE system. UL115B contains a single15 neodymium driver mounted in a double chamber band-pass speaker enclosure. This design provides an optimal efficiency gain of over 2dB as well as excellent control over the diaphragm displacement. The front chamber opens onto a K-Horn design resulting in a further 2dB gain in the high frequencies. Furthermore, the forced ventilation design of the neodymium driver reduces thermal compression by 2dB. This combination results in a superior dynamic capacity and an SPL gain of over 6dB compared to a traditional direct-radiating vented enclosure. Rear load Front load The UL115B subwoofer has been designed for low frequency reinforcement from 45 160 Hz. The frequency cross-over with UL210 is at 110 Hz. It is possible to extend LF still further by using the TB118S or TB218S subwoofers. The ergonomic 4-point rigging system makes it easy to fly or groundstack the UL115B. Cardioid configurations are also made possible thanks to this system, and a Speakon TM connector on the front makes cabling quick and easy. K-Horn load UNINLINE Technical brochure V 1.0 2

3. Low and very low frequency reinforcement UL115B - UNILINE s low frequency enclosure In applications where the bass speakers do not need to be flown, the UL115B can be replaced by APG TB115S or TB 215S subwoofers. All speakers are K-Horn-loaded, thus ensuring perfect compatibility, whatever the combination. UL115B SUBWOOFERS APG recommends the use of the TB series subwoofers (KHorn technology) in order to extend system operating range down to the very low frequencies: UL210 alone: 55Hz 19kHz UL210 + UL115B : 45Hz 19kHz UL210 + UL115B + TB115S : 45Hz 19kHz UL210 + UL115B + TB118S : 35Hz 19kHz UL210 + UL115B + TB215S : 45Hz 19kHz UL210 + UL115B + TB218S : 35Hz 19kHz TB218S TB215S TB118S TB115S 4. Rigging and transport Rigging The rigging system consists of the ULTRUSS bumper to which the brackets and the shackle maintaining the hanging cable are fixed. Benefits of 3-point rigging system: Faster, easier set-up Improved system security (the system is designed such that it is impossible to fly unless all three points are securely fixed) The use of a single point at the back makes it very easy to adjust the angle between speakers whilst they are on the floor. Special mountings also make it possible to fly the equivalent of a ground-stacked configuration in other words, a column rather than a curved array. ULTRUSS UL115B ULTRUSS The choice of a 4-point system for the UL115B subs makes it possible to arrange the enclosures in a cardioïd configuration with reversed speakers when necessary. UL210 The UL210 and UL115B speakers are fixed together or to the ULTRUSS bumper with pins that are attached to the speakers by unobtrusive cables UL210 The ULTRUSS bumper handles UL210 - UL115B coupling for both ground-stacked and flown configurations. UL210 Transport : To transport a UNILINE system two custom dollies have been developed. The UL210WB is designed to carry up to 6 x UL210 speakers. The UL115B dolly will carry up to 4 x UL115B speakers. Both dollies are compatible with flight case covers. UL210WB UNINLINE Technical brochure UL115WB V 1.0 3

5. Signal processing, amplification and cabling Signal processing : digital processor DMS26 DMS26 digital processor PWAPG Interface The APG DMS26 processor features 2 inputs and 6 analog outputs (96kHz/24 bits). The DMS26 comes pre-loaded with the APG loudspeaker presets. It is also possible to create and save your own presets. Several DMS26 devices may be networked together using a BVNETCARD card and the BVNETADAPT interface for large scale configurations with remote control via the PWAPG software. Power Amplification APG recommends the use of professional amplifiers with following minimum power ratings: UL210 Lo/Mid Section: 800W into 16 Ohms 3200W into 4 Ohms UL210 Mid/Hi Section: 300W into 16 Ohms 1200W into 4 Ohms Up to 119 DMS26 in daisy-chain Network Synoptique» Connecting patch Connection panel for UNILINE Amp racks : PCM panel (mono) and PCS panel (stereo) 1. 4 female XLR 3 inputs 2. 4 male XLR 3 links (PCM) OR 4 XLR 3 inputs (PCS) 3. 2 Speakon 8-point outputs 4. 4 Speakon 4-point outputs 5. 2 RJ45 Network connectors (In + Link) 6. 8. Uniline Aiming Tool Principle The UNILINE Aiming-Tool tm is a proprietary APG software program that enables you to calculate and determine with precision all the mechanical adjustments of the UNILINE clusters according to the simulated acoustic characteristics. 1 It is possible to edit the dimensions of the site, the geometry and inclination of the listening planes (floors and raked seating), as well as the position of three listening points or virtual measurements (mix, mic1 and mic 2). The UNILINE Aiming-Tool tm enables you to link the geometry and acoustics of the system and predict the angulations and mechanical variables (position of brackets on the bumper). 2 Image 1 : model of the site In this example, the venue has four different zones : A pit, raked seating, and two balconies (maximum configuration that can be simulated in the software) Image 2: visualization of the coverage predicted by the simulation software. 3 Image 3: visualization of the simulated acoustic levels per octave bandwidth. Three curves at different frequencies are displayed simultaneously. The algorithms are based on real acoustic measurements to take into account the properties of the waveguides that are used. Image 4: technical report the mechanical simulation enables you to print out a full report, including a mechanical certification for the structure, together with the geometrical characteristics (position of different moving parts, rigging motor points, size of the system etc.) 4 UNINLINE Technical brochure V 1.0 6

9. Configurations Configurations : 2-way "standalone" mode 3-way "extended" mode with UL115B 3-way "extended" mode with UL115B in cardioid configuration 3-way "extended" mode with subs 4-way "complete" mode "Standalone" mode : fullrange, 2 way-active "Standalone" mode In this configuration, the UL210 speakers work as a standalone 2-way system without additional bass or infra bass subwoofers. Low-end power and efficiency is determined by the number of speakers. Using a large number of UL210s linked together (either ground-stacked or flown), an extended frequency response down to 70Hz can be achieved very comfortably. "Extended" mode : with subs, 3 way active "Extended" mode The extended mode (3-way) offers two possibilities: UL210 coupled with UL115B UL210 coupled with subwoofers Here again, it is the number of UL120 speakers and the size of the resulting source that determines the dynamic capacity in the low and low/mid. The frequency crossover will be selected according to the configuration: 80Hz or 100Hz. In both the extended and full-range configuration, the UL115B cluster can be stacked or flown either above or next to a UL210 cluster. "Extended" mode : with UL115B, 3 way active CAUTION : when two speaker clusters (UL210 and UL115B) flown are side by side, it may be necessary to move back the hanging point of the UL115B in order to avoid the risk of acoustic masking of the UL210 cluster. Can t find this section in the French text? And not sure how to translate msk as I can t find the original text. In the extended and full-range modes, it is possible to fly the UL115B subs in a cardioïd configuration. "Extended" mode : with cardioid UL115B, 3 way active "Complete" mode The full-range (4-way) mode is the configuration that utilises every type of enclosure: UL210, UL115B and infrabass subwoofers for maximum low-end impact. In this case, we would recommend the APG TB118S or TB218S subs. Ideally, the frequency crossover between the subwoofers and UL115B would have an overlap of 50 to 63 Hz in order to achieve maximum efficiency in this area. The frequency crossover between UL115B and UL210 will be between 80-140 Hz according to the size of the resulting sources. It will also be necessary to temporarily align the different speaker groups. In certain live concert situations, it is worth setting up the system in relation to the position of the different rhythm sections on stage (drums, percussionists, bass, etc) "Complete" mode : with subs and UL115B, 4 way active UNINLINE Technical brochure V 1.0 7

10. Stacked configurations Our specially designed ULTRUSS bumper makes it possible to incline the ULB210s from -15 to +8 degrees. 8Ä There are two options for ground-stacked configurations: The first option with subs utilizes an ULTRUSS equipped with the ULTRUSSTP accessory which provides the fixing between the UL115B sub and the bumper, and then the UL210s are stacked on top. 15Ä The second option without subs utilizes an ULTRUSS equipped with ULTRUSSP, which provides four feet which screw into the bottom of the bumper, thus providing a stable platform for the UL210s NB ULTRUSS is the only bumper required, whether clusters are ground-stacked or flown. In ground-stacked mode, the maximum number of enclosures at the maximum angle is six UL210s 11. Max Configuration Maximum configurations On ULTRUSS (x2) On ULTRUSS 16 x UL210 20 x UL115B 8 x UL115B Maximum configurations On ULTRUSS On ULRAIL 24 x UL210 6 x UL210 NB Must not be exceeded. These configurations represent the maximum load limit of the flying system. However, in certain cases depending on the angles used in the configuration, the maximum number of loudspeakers may be inferior! The UNILINE Aiming Tool simulation software will calculate the loads for you to ensure that all of the necessary safety standards are respected and that load limits are not exceeded. UNINLINE Technical brochure V 1.0 8

12. Set up 1 2 3 4 5 7 Flying the system Set up: e.g. using a dolly loaded with 3 or 4 loudspeakers. 1. Start from a flat surface with enough space to position the dollies or loudspeakers directly below the flying point. Position the first dolly (or group of loudspeakers) equipped with the ULTRUSS bumper below the lifting pint. 2. Place the dolly in the right position (may be simulated in U.A.T software) and hook the cluster onto the hoist. 3. Adjust the speaker angles, preferably using the pre-drilled holes for large configurations. 4. Wire up the speaker amplifiers in parallel (usually in groups of 4, or a maximum of 8) 5. Check the phasing of each section and loudspeaker. 6. Makes sure that all of the flying fixings are secure. 7. Raise the first cluster so that you can get the next cluster into position and lock the dolly into place. 8. Carefully lower the first cluster, guiding it manually into place. Engage the front pins as soon as possible. Keep lowering if necessary until it is possible to engage the back part at the desired angle. 9. Repeat operation again from #5. Caution: above 12 speakers, it is recommended to hang speaker by speaker. 10. Before lifting, check the global angle of the cluster with an inclinometer. 11. Check the cabling, locking of pins one last time, and phase if not already done. 12. Raise cluster to final height. Make sure you have a way to measure the height. 13. Secure the cluster (security cable) and check and finalise the orientation (horizontal aiming angle) of cluster. Breaking down: 1- Place a UL210WB dolly beneath the cluster 2- Lower the cluster without putting it on the floor completely. Adjust all angles between speakers to 10 to use the UL210WB, or at O to use a flight case, and remove cables if necessary. 3- Lower the cluster completely into the flight case or onto the UL210WB. Unfasten the speakers required. 4- Raise the rest of the cluster and repeat the operation. 5- Finally, unfasten the bumper and insert the pin in the store hole. CAUTION : during the operation of set-up and breakdown and especially for large configurations, the cluster tends to tip towards the back. It is therefore necessary maintain the tension with the motors and carry out each step very carefully. UNINLINE Technical brochure V 1.0 9

13. Tools Inclinometer This tool enables you to measure very precisely the absolute and relative angles of surface inclination. It can be useful for on-the-spot measurements to analyse the environment (slope of bench seating, or floor) It is an essential tool for checking the global angulations of the clusters. The APG UNILINE mechanical hanging system is accurate to within 1. It is possible to fix permanently an inclinometer onto the bumper and take measurements remotely (via Wi-Fi or cable) in order to measure the final angulation of the cluster taking into account all possible influences (weight of cables, variations due to the wind etc...) Decameter This tool is used for the installation of the system, as well as tuning measurements. Fixed onto the bumper, it can measure the height of speakers when lifting the cluster to determine the final hang height. On the floor it measures the distance to and positions of the microphones for system tuning. Telemeter The telemeter is sometimes combined with the inclinometer in a single tool. It makes the measurement of a venue quick and easy. It can also be used to control the height of the last speaker of a cluster if you don t have a decameter. Acoustic measurement system = laptop + software + acquisition card + microphone SPL meter This tool measures acoustic sound pressure level. It is often available in acoustic measurement systems Phase tester This simple tool is the base line of a system setup. It measures the electric and acoustic phase of the system, once installed and cabled. Remote control : The APG DMS26 processors can be controlled remotely via the BVNet network protocol. The DMS26s must be equipped with BVNETCARD card and the networking is done via the BVNETADAPT interface. UNINLINE Technical brochure V 1.0 10
