GRADE 4 READING LIST AND PREPARING FOR GRADE 4 (for students entering Grade 4) Dear Students, Welcome to Grade 4! First and foremost, remember to make time for daily prayer this summer. You are expected to know your math facts fluently by the time you reach Grade 4. Practice them on a daily basis. It only takes a few minutes! It is essential for you to begin Grade 4 already knowing your math facts. Read at least 10 books. Try to meet the Grade 4 goal of reading 1,000 minutes this summer! Here are some activities that will help you build your math and reading skills this summer. Math Practice your math facts multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction every day. Measure items around your house. Find the perimeter too! Practice using elapsed time. For example, how long were you at the beach? Reading Read at least 10 books or 1,000 minutes by the end of the summer! Return your completed (and signed) log on the first day of school. Suggested Books for Summer Reading for Grade 4 Students You may read from a wide variety of books you enjoy reading. To prepare for Grade 4 specifically, consider reading a biography on a saint and an inventor, along with some nonfiction texts on animals and the United States! Explore different types of poetry! You are expected to read at least 10 books and complete the attached Summer Reading Log. The goal for Grade 4 students is 1000 minutes of reading by the end of the summer. Return the (signed) log to your teacher when school starts in September. You may print it out as many times as you need. Please note that the following books are suggestions only!
