Helping your business grow in the UK health system

OVERVIEW PROVIDING INSIGHT AND HELPING YOU DELIVER INNOVATIVE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES TO THE NHS AND BEYOND. The health system is a complex and uncertain environment. We provide the expertise to help your organisation identify barriers to entry, and assess and target opportunities in the NHS ecosystem. This document is for you if you are interested in bringing innovative drugs, devices, diagnostics, services and digital products to patients in the NHS and beyond.

The historical model where innovators simply throw new products at health care systems and allow them to layer these onto existing pathways is no longer viable. We believe that health care systems and innovators need to work together to demonstrate the way in which innovations change pathways and improve outcomes. Professor Sir John Bell, Regius Professor of Medicine at the University of Oxford, Accelerated Access Review Final Report (2016)

OUR APPROACH Our approach is built around a core understanding of how your product or service could be used in the NHS and beyond. This gives the necessary information to think differently, plan differently, do differently. We will help you to: 1 2 3 Fine-tune your product or service to offer the best value and outcomes for your customers. Understand how your innovation fits into the pathways and the challenges to adoption by users in the NHS through human factors and design analysis. Accelerate your journey to market through efficient and targeted market validation, user testing and consumer feedback to achieve an optimal productmarket fit. Validate the value of your innovation to the UK healthcare system including health economic evaluation, budget impact analysis and connect with health professionals to undertake evaluation studies to support these. Identify concrete routes to turn your innovation into a commercially-viable business venture. Analyse the NHS marketplace, potential size and route to adoption, including user and purchaser analysis and competitor analysis. 4 Reduce risk. Save time, money and resource in getting your product to market. Identify market access routes, including the evidence required to support regulatory and business cases, to accelerate the adoption and scaling of your innovation in the UK healthcare market. These approaches can be offered as bespoke services or be fully integrated.

OUR CORE TEAM Our team of experts from Imperial College Health Partners and the NIHR Diagnostic Evidence Co-operative London have a significant breadth of policy, industry, human factors and health economics experience. They bring an academic rigour to the most critical aspects of adoption and business case development. This ensures we can look specifically at the product/service and assess how it may lead to improvements in healthcare services and increased benefits for the patients. The Diagnostic Evidence Co-operative (DEC) London is funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) with the aim to generate world class evidence based on robust methodology to support the adoption of health technologies into the clinical setting. It acts as a catalyst for the generation of high-quality evidence of clinical validity, clinical utility, cost effectiveness and care pathway benefits of commercially-supplied in vitro diagnostic medical devices (IVDs), sought by a range of users.

GLOBAL NETWORK We pride ourselves in our global network. This means you will have the opportunity to work with the best individuals and organisations in London, the UK and worldwide; providing you with a robust innovation infrastructure. Using innovation to remove financial barriers to rehabilitation after stroke The virtual physiotherapist device, GripAble, helps paralysed patients exercise using computer games meaning patients can exercise in the comfort of their own homes with better outcomes. ICHP worked with Gripable to assess the scalability of the device and the supporting software, develop the concept with industry, test with patients and bring to the market. Cutting through the red tape to bring innovations to the health system is incredibly difficult. Working with ICHP ensured GripAble could break down barriers across different sectors. Their expertise allowed us to establish the full impact our device could have and provided a detailed market analysis. The support helped further product development and ultimately resulted in putting us in a stronger position to attract larger investment and differentiate ourselves in the marketplace. Paul Rinne, CEO, GripAble
