The BOCA National Building Code Both NFPA 5000 and the SBCCI Standard Building Code International Building Code regulate the ignitability of building facades based on ignitability characteristics containing combustible components by using NFPA 268. Exterior facades are regulated as a function of the distance to the property line and on the basis of the radiant heat flux necessary to cause ignition of the facade under piloted conditions. Both the Standard Building Code and the National Building Code provide summarized descriptions for conducting ignitability evaluations for exterior wall assemblies. However, no standardized test method for the determination of the ignitability characteristics of exterior building facades under radiant heat exposure currently exists within the model building codes or ASTM.
