Excerpt: From Empty To Empowered Many years ago, I was in a time of great healing. If you were with me back then, you would have found a very different person than the one you have gotten to know today. I was unable to work due to health reasons, depression was at the forefront of my days and the one aspect that brought joy to my life were my pets. Along with my three cats, I also had some fish. Zerbert was a betta fish and his colouring was vibrant red. I remember when he would flare his gills outwards and how his colours would shine. The life span of a fish is not very long and Zerbert s was slowing down. He didn t appear to be as vibrant as he once was and I thought I might be able to help him transition from this physical plane in a way that was supposed to be peaceful. I had researched the use of clove oil and how, when given at the appropriate doses, would allow a fish to gently fall to sleep slowly decreasing the heart rate until it passed away. I researched several websites and the information was the same. I thought this might be a good solution for him because this way, he wouldn t suffer. What I didn t realize is this technique should have been performed by an expert trained with aquatic animals. Because of the choices I made, he actually died a forceful death.
This broke my heart and once I realized the error of my ways, I did everything I possibly could to help him. Within about a minute, he was gone, but that minute was very long! Long enough to know that he felt pain and I still carry much guilt. I am so sorry for what I did to this innocent fish and it s stayed with me even until this day. I wrote a letter to Zerbert and it really helped because I became vulnerable enough to ask him for forgiveness. Some people look at me differently and say, But he was just a fish. He was NOT just a fish. He was a living creature that breathed and felt. Writing the letter helped me moved forward in my personal healing journey and bettered my life and relationships with my pets and people thereafter. I take full responsibility for what happened and I also have taken action steps in my own teachings to be able to get to where I am now. I also have learned a lot from this experience knowing that in the future, this will never happen again. Because of this experience with Zerbert, I am now able to offer you hope. If you are having these same thoughts, feelings and emotions with your dog, cat, fish, bird, horse, rabbit or any other living creature, you are not alone and I understand. www.powerofpets365.com www.powerofpets365.com Copyright Marybeth Haines
