SILVER - Silver production in Canada during August amounted to 1,539,360 ounces as compared with 1,795,92? ounces in July and 1,630,399 ounces in August, 1935, according to a statement just issued by the Dominion Bureau of Statistics at Ottawa. Output during the eight months ending August totalled 11,781,666 ounces or 11.1 per cent above the production in the corresponding months of 1935. The average price of silver on the New York market, (Handy and Harmn) in August was 44.7545 cents per ounce, in Canadian funds; valued at this price the month's output in Canada was worth 688,933. During July, silver averaged 44.79475 cents per ounce and the value of the month's production was 804,481. Silver bullion exports in August advanced to 1,559,496 ounces from the July total of 1,234,441 ounces. The August exports consisted of 1,544,352 ounces shipped to the United States and 15,144 ounces to Great Britain. Silver in ore, concentrates, etc., exported from Can'de in August amounted to 431,329 ounces as compared with 272,584 ounces in the preceding month. Imports of silver bullion declined to 201,842 ounces from the July total of 333,530 ounces. Great Britain supplied 53.5 per cent of the August import tions and the United States, the remainder. The world output of silver in Auguct was estimated at 21,455,OCO ounces; in July, 19,988,000 ounces were produced. Output in Mexico rose to 7,854,000 ounces or 21.6 per cent above the previous month's total. The United States produced 4,733,000 ounces as against 4,616,000 ounces in July. During the eight months ending August Canada produced 247,102,976 pounds of lead; this represented an increase of 13.7 per cent over the output in the corresponding period of 1935. The average price of lead on the London nrkct in August was 3.76359 cents per pound, In Canadian funds; based on this price the Candian production during the month was worth 1,279,132. In July lead averaged 3.5584 cents per pound and the value of the month's output was computed at.1,150,235. Pig lead exports from Canada in August rose to 39,23000 pounds from the July total of 22,117,700 pounds. Exports of lead In ore, concentrates, etc., declined 15.2 per cent to 1,596,600 pounds as compared with the preceding month's exportations of 1,883,300 pounds. The United States produced 31,117 tons of refined lead in AuguEt; during the previous month 36,863 tons were produced. Stocks on hand in the United States declined 12,848 tons in August to 218,233 tons. Production in Mexico was at approximately the same level as in July and amounted to 20,004 tons. The Australian output was 8 per cent higher at 17,730 tons, on the other hand, the German production was 5 per cent lower at 12,676 tons.

ZINC - Zinc production in Canada during August was recorded at 27,597,093 pounds as compared with 30,873,091 pounds in July and 28,30,131 pounds in August, 1935. Output during the eight months ending August totalled 216,142,33± pounds or 3.6 per cent above the production a year ago Zinc quotations on the London mirket in August averaged 3.03565 cents per pound in CanadIan funds; valuod at this price the Canadian output during the month was worth837,751. In July, the average price was 3.04739 cents per pound and the value of the month's production was 940,823. Canada exported zinc spelter to a total of 32,988,000 pounds in August as compared with 20,904,100 pounds in July. Exports of zinc in ore, concentrates, etc., from Canada in August consistec of 13,546,000 pounds shipped to Belgium and 3,284,,200 pounds to France. Acco'ding to the American Bureau of Metal Statistics the world produ..tion of zin/in August totalled 136,314 tons or an averaee of 4,397 tons per day as compared with the July total of 138,553 tons or a daily average of 4,46 tons. The United States produced 43,614 tons ir 4.3 per cent below the preceding month's output. Germany produced 12,653 tons in August and Australia, 12,711 tons; these totals showed little change from the preceding month.
